Amazing modem-router. A future proofing solution
By Shailendra Bhon
Indeed a great experience all the way. So my big thanks to my friend Anuj K, who referred immensely this modem-router. Next in line is the seller, amzone prime and Asus for reasonable, pricing, bills, 48 hrs delivery, and good packaging with required cables like, dsl cable, LAN cable etc.It was really smoothy setting up this beauty speedy net hub. Took about 2 min to plug and setup, another 5-10 min downloaded apps, firmware, upgrades and by next 10 min I had configured users, FTP for my hard disk, (yes I have my secured ftp now) and created guest network. So max 25-30 min for all above...This is par my expectations. Superb!!.So just to mention, I'm not a networking/IT specialist guy but I love gadgets and technologies.I'm sure who rated it low, might have faced some issue but I'm sure reason can't be this product. As my place has abrupt connectivity for cellphone and intermittent BSNL speed. But ASUS has changed the overall experience now. In no time, running movie, FTP upload,/download, monitor it remotely (yes I setup sleep mode control also ) and manage through android app. Please go for it. It's an amazing product. I had never budgeted this but I believed high on my friend Anuj's future proofing ideas. It's worth for me.
Good Feature although Does not worth with the quality
By Yogeshon
Good features and it have all features what I was looking for i.e. bandwidth limiter, guest login and mobile administration. Although router quality is very poor keep getting hang every week (Internet not accessible), although router diagnostic tools shows no error. Logged complain with customer care , very poor & pathetic, they think we are dump and try to do factory resets multiple times . They don't have knowledge to capture router log for any issues, even after telling router need to restart every week, they keep insisting to to take the router to authorized service center. Which I know they won't find any issues as after restart router behaves normal for 1 week. They are also claiming router getting heated ( Surprised as my last normal router was not restarted for more than year) and need to get cooled.Do not buy if you are looking for peace of mine. Today only restarted (more than 10 times since purchase) and soon I will scrap this.
Works with Airtel VDSL, Apple TV
By Praveen tyagion
Works well with Airtel VDSL. Has 5 ghz band on which my Apple TV works pretty well (had Airplay trouble with my earlier Binatone 2.4 ghz modem), although its range is not that great. Its 2.4 ghz band has a good range though. In fact i’m only using its 2.4 ghz for all purposes (mobiles, printer) and 5 ghz only for Apple TV.Its network sharing of HDD works great. I have shared a 1 TB FAT system based HDD on my network and can now access all my media from any other device. It uses the Samba server and I was able to create/configure users and define which directory can be accessed by which user.
Great Product

After exploring and trying several failed alternatives for network connectivity around my large house, I decided to splash the cash and go for this model. I have an airtel connection @8mbps speed. The modem itself was very simple to set up and I had both the hardware and software portions configured in 5 mins. The previous models I tried either had very poor signal, and if it had a decent signal range the speeds were awful. Now with this model I get connectivity at all over the house and the speed drop with distance is very marginal. I'm forced to keep my modem at one corner of the house due to some renovation work and in the other corner that is about 50 feet and two thick walls away, I get download speeds in the region of 3mbps @2.4 Ghz band (using speed test mobile app). I also get very consistent speeds and don't see a wavering pattern like I used to with other devices. I expect the speeds to see a significant boost once I keep the modem in my living room at the center of the house.
Mind-boggling equipment !
By Anuj K.on
Day 1 feedback: Received this router today. Setup time was less than a min. All and all getting the router with assembling and setup needed a couple of minutes, no brainer really.I was using an ISP supplied router earlier, which was infested with all sorts of worms you can find on the internet. About 70% of my ISPs customers in our city were hit by trojans from within ISP network. The Asus equipment comes with complete protection at this end, it does come with capabilities for 360° protection. Although time will tell if it works but I trust it will do so.I have been working in the IT industry for just short of two decades and am conversant with networking. I was looking at the tweaking capabilities the router software provides and it did look for a power user who knows what to do with this kind of equipment, you've got all you need under the wraps! You can keep tuning it at your will if you know what you are doing OR just let the device manage itself while turning the features ON. It absolutely lets you tune almost every capability advertised.Wireless range is good and is huge improvement over what my previous ISP supplied equipment would deliver. I do belive there is room for improvement here though. I have tested this in only three central places on my 2600 sq. ft. residence with very high ceilings. AiRadar may also need sometime to settle in. Connecting devices works like a charm, absolutely effortless !Just a few hours that I am understanding this equipment and I am already in love with it :) Seems like every penny worth spent !
Simply Awesome
By Santosh Puranikon
Wow. This is one super-fast router. Using the AC band with my Nexus 5 shows just how fast AC speeds are. I am able to play Hi-profile HD movies several feet away from the router without the slightest lag.
I earlier owned the RT-N56U, and this one beats it all hands down. It has a dual core processor, and the results really show. I have a 2TB HDD connected to it on the USB3 port and have been using this as my media server. At any given time their are at least 5 clients connected to it, and it handles every one of them like a champ.
Pros:
- 802.11AC is here to stay. If you want the latest and the greatest (at least what's available in India) look no further.
- Dual band. You can setup networks simultaneously on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.
- Guest network facility.
- USB 3.0. It actually works, I get sustained speeds of ~40MBps for read and write.
- Dual core processor means the router excels at all the extra non-router features like DLNA, SAMBA, FTP servers.
- Intuitive admin interface.
- Stealth mode, can switch OFF those pesky LEDs.
- Excellent range. I get good signal in every corner of my house.
Cons:
- Can get a little hot at times.
- No wall mount option. Is on the bulkier side, takes up desk space.
- Price.
Simply awesome

Regretting. I shouldn't have bought this
By Rakesh Bhatton
I switched from a 3-4 year old Netgear router to this. I bought it after reading some great reviews and recommendations from friends. It's an expensive buy so I wanted to be careful. I was buying this for the next 3-4 years, so it *had* to be worth the Rs 18725 investment.
It isn't. DO NOT BUY THIS. I tried returning it, but Flipkart isn't willing to take it back.
The biggest problem is the reliability of the networks that this router sets up. Speeds keep dropping while I'm browsing, and this is across my Macbook Air and my Xiaomi Mi2 android handset. Chrome, for the most bit, is stuck on "Connecting...". On the phone, most apps don't get much speed. My phone displays connectivity as per kbps, and it's gone to 0.2-20kbps with this router, from ~200 kbps with my old netgear one. I'm on an MTNL 2mbps connection.
Every few minutes, and I'm forced to switch from the 2.4 GHz network to 5GHz, else switch off wireless and connect again. Once that also fails, I'm forced to switch back to 2.4 GHz, which means that the connection has be refreshed every few minutes.
The router has an in-built firewall, and this problem persists even if I disable the firewall. Since my phone doesn't connect to 5GHz, I'm forced to use mobile data instead of WiFi. Most devices I own do not work on 5 GHz, so you should be careful before you buy.
I was running two regular and 2 guest networks, one each on 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
and not all my devices can work on the 5GHz frequency. I removed the guest networks, hoping that might free up some frequencies, but that hasn't helped. Most websites still time out.
The only thing that has improved is the reach, but that is useless if the router does not work properly. Therefore: DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER.
I'm switching back to my old router, and am going to check with Asus about what they can do.
Another thing you should be aware of: the router software can be a little tricky, and the USB based NAS setup can be confusing to set up. Asus' guides, whether online or the printed booklet, do not cover all the aspects of setting this up. Some settings, especially for DLNA and NAS, were not even mentioned online, and it was difficult for me to figure things out.
I'm very disappointed because I thought this router would be an upgrade, and was hopeful of a superior wireless experience. The exact opposite has happened, and now I'm left with a piece of expensive junk.
Ps: This review was written by Nikhil Pahwa. Was purchased by Rakesh Bhatt on my behalf.
An absolute Gem if you can afford it

The BEST!

Its is the best router in the market, check c|net reviews. It has a very good through-put and range and has even got an USB 3.0 port (+ another 2.0 one) which is a rarity in routers so you 3.0 storage devices could work as NAS devices at their full potential. This will definately be my next route...
