It DOES NOT justify the 1000INR MRP in today's times went multi LED home use emergency lights with rechargeable batteries cost under 500-600.Mainly because the beam does not have a long throw. It spreads out the further it goes and is not a narrow focus,so the best performance we got was up to a maximum of 25-30 feet and this was in pitch darkness or 4th night of waning moon.The swivel mechanism is fairly child-proof otherwise. as in, it is not too delicate and the orange flanges (ears) are fair sturdy to not break or loose the head.there IS a metal triangle (sort of ring) at the base for you to attach the leash if you want to. but no string or leash comes with the pack.-------------------------------------------------------------------------Overall for 1000 INR MRP and 500 Selling Price this ought to get a 3.5/5 ratingbut a star is being reduced for mischievous dumping of old substandard stock-returns by selling it on-line.Varta seems to have no particular interest in the Indian market and all the stock being officially procured is by one'Nikita Distributors' (Poona, Maharashtra)seemingly they have go many master franchises for India, but some of these are surrendered or no longer serviced by Nikita Distributors.Hi-Tec Shoes being one such example.probably same goes for Varta.The stock we got WAS PACKED IN NOVEMBER 2013 AND SOLD IN LATE SEPTEMBER - 2013.The China packed packing states Varta 'guarantee' of 3 years,the cells in the pack had lost most of its power and only replacing them with new R6 batteries (Duracell) helped us to check the torch properly.Nikita Distributors upon calling them (direct phone call) conveyed their limitation that they can not assure us what stock reached usor what their channel/dealer network is selling on-line.for the time being they asked us to take recourse to on-site replacement time window and hope for the best.Amazon has graciously accepted the replacement request and we hope to get a fresher stock.OVERALL RATING 2.5 (one star lesser due to three years old stock and practically dead battery cells and importer Nikita Distributors trying to misguide by labelling it as manufactured in Germany)_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________we also left the following seller feedback_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Varta Power Line Swivel Light LED 2 AA Accessory guarantee as per Varta 36 months. Great product,the only swivel torch at this price.The beam isnt very powerful,but it does the job escpecially for local use,walking ,trekking etc.A value addition to your home,car or office if you want a swivel torch,Plus its water resistant if not waterproof,so rains are not an issue.Use Duracells for better beam quality.

I work on ships and this torch has been exceptionally useful on board. It is extremely robust and the swivel mechanism is a lifesaver as you can conveniently point the beam or just leave it on in the pocket with the head inclined out. Has been dropped in mud and water but worked on wo any issues. But the beam is not very strong. Would recommend using duracell for good power. They last about a month for my usage.
