This book compares and contrasts the representation of women ;in the writings of two acclaimed authors of the 20th century. Even though Patrick White and Margaret Laurence belonged to different traditions and had very different styles in their writings there are striking similarities (and equally striking dissimilarities) in their presentation of women in their fiction.
Considerable discussion exists on the effects of gender and culture on fictional representation of men and women and this book will add significantly to the debate. Using Vedantic concepts it analysis women as Selves existing beyond their roles as daughter wife mother professional or artist. About Author :
Dr. V Bharathi received her Ph.D in 1993. She has long been interested in Patrick White and Margaret Laurence and this book is the result of years of reading and analysis of these tow authors. She is currently Lecturer in English at L.D. Arts College, Ahmedabad,where she teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in English. She has also published numerous articles in the area of Commonwealth literature. Her current interests are : Post-Colonial literature, translation and literary theories.
