The Immortals of Meluha (PAPERBACK) details from infibeam
About the Book :
1900 BC. In what modern Indians mistakenly call the Indus Valley Civilisation. The inhabitants of that period called it the land of Meluha – a near perfect empire created many centuries earlier by Lord Ram, one of the greatest monarchs that ever lived.
This once proud empire and its Suryavanshi rulers face severe perils as its primary river, the revered Saraswati, is slowly drying to extinction. They also face devastating terrorist attacks from the east, the land of the Chandravanshis. To make matters worse, the Chandravanshis appear to have allied with the Nagas, an ostracised and sinister race of deformed humans with astonishing martial skills.
The only hope for the Suryavanshis is an ancient legend: ‘When evil reaches epic proportions, when all seems lost, when it appears that your enemies have triumphed, a hero will emerge.’
Is the rough-hewn Tibetan immigrant Shiva, really that hero? And does he want to be that hero at all? Drawn suddenly to his destiny, by duty as well as by love, will Shiva lead the Suryavanshi vengeance and destroy evil?
This is the first book in a trilogy on Shiva, the simple man whose karma re-cast him as our Mahadev, the God of Gods.
About the Author :
Amish Triparthi : IIM-Kolkata educated financial services professional, fascinated by history, philosophy and the future of human civilisation. The inspiration for this story came from years of reading mythological stories, historical books and invigorating discussions with his family about the destiny of the human body, mind and soul. Amish lives in Mumbai with his wife Preeti. He is presently writing book two of this trilogy.Nice and upto the mark packing from infibeam. Would have given 5 start if delivery was given a bit early."Immortals of Meluha" ............................... Its an interesting book ...................................and infibeam service is really good.very great narration by an indian author. the 3 parts are already planned and written in a great manner. hats off to amish.Don't know about the book but transaction is satisfactoryGreat thinking done by Amish in weaving facts and fiction togehter....Amish has created a niche for himself with the Shiva Trilogy. A great book which keeps you grappled till the very end. The valorous Shiva and the other characters have been portrayed in sync with their true personality. However calling Sati a widow seems a bit incongruous. Since it's a work of fiction, the author can be acquitted of that charge! Overall a nice read. I look forward to the sequels eagerly.
Infibeam had been a bit slow in shipping this book on time. (Took over a week to dispatch the book from the date of payment)Really a very interesting book.... Look forward for the part 3..a great book on lord shiva,,,,,,,, n being a hindu diety.....its just a great pleasure to have such books in today's time.....unbelievable................A must read book for everyone. A typical bollywood potboiler. It has all the required ingredients. A larger than life Mytho-Fantasy canvas with all the emotions. Love, Lust, Betrayal all in the name of Shiva!Story line:
The story starts with a strong and charm young Tibetan shiva (of course lord shiva), who is in dilemma about supplanting his tribe to meluha. The offer was given by nandi, a meluhan captain. From there the story emanates about Shiva’s travel to meluha and how ordinary man shiva became lord mahadev.
Positive aspects:
The story clearly comes with the clear description of Indus valley civilization. The culture and traditions of the people are totally keyed up and the story zero in on each and every social behavior and beliefs of the community. The story gives historical descriptions of many characters like lord ram, Lord Brahma and even it describes about sangam Tamil also. This aspect of the story is very fresh and never loses from holding your attention. The character description is very lucid and amusing. Especially shiva is brilliantly characterized which almost synchronies with picture of lord shiva in the mind of the people. The romantic sequence of shiva and sati is impressive. The incidents turning shiva into lord neelkanth is interesting. The author tries his best to match some incidents logically with present day science. For example, the description of somras is effectively woven with the science of anti oxidants. The war sequences are well sculpted and the sequence in Ayodhya is also riveting.
Non positive aspects:
The narration of the story will definitely irritates you at some point of time. The author could have worked better on his narration. Especially his vocabulary can be much simpler. As a south Indian I feel some incidents, which are familiar to south Indians about lord shiva are missing. For example, agastya, a sage plays a crucial role in Shiva’s marriage. But this novel doesn’t describe anything about agastya.About the book - It's wonderful for someone who wants to feel another world. The book is well written with each incidence properly defined with reasoning. Overall after reading i experienced something new . I will not say it's must read but definitely it is for someone who himself like to venture into new ideas and are not reluctant in appreciating others new ideas.Going for the nagas now.
