About Osho

Osho, born Chandra Mohan Jain in 1931, is also known as Acharya Rajneesh. He was a renowned Indian philosopher, author and spiritual teacher.

Born in a small village in Madhya Pradesh, Osho was strongly influenced by the unbridled freedom and lack of education in the first seven years of his life. Later, he procured his Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from D. N. Jain College, and a Master’s degree from the University of Sagar. He was employed as a professor for a period of time, and his syncretic views on religion, capitalism, and birth control, although considered very controversial at the time, garnered the support of several followers. Osho’s vision encompassed both, the promise of Western technology and Science, and the age-old wisdom of the East. He started an Ashram in Pune in 1974, one that still runs to this day and has a large number of regular European and American visitors.
