Superb just go for it
By Viciouson
Very good lens if you are tight on budget.Nice for potrait but I will not recommend it if you are using dx format camera due to crop factor you cant accumulate whole group in a single frame.I would suggest to go for 35mm Nikon lens.It is having a nice bookeh effect (see d pic).Sharp pic good for low lighting Scenerio. Can be used both by Professional and Amature.Generally 50MM (used on FX modle) field of view is what your eye can see with some crop of 10meters.So choose wisely between 35mm and 50mm
Five stars
By Nabaon
Perfect for Portrait photography for a right price. This lens is loved by many photographers. One has to ensure to buy D or G model while buying. If your camera body has autofocus motor, then you can still go with the D model.
For some really professional looking quality portraits
By Ashokon
Takes some really professional looking photos without trying hard at all. With great image clarity, good low light performance and nice background blur effect, even a kid can take some pro looking creative images with it. Very happy with the purchase.Pros* prime image quality - clarity/sharpness and lack of noise* take images without flash in moderate lighting conditions* beautiful bokhe for some really creative/pro looking imagesCons* speed is not very impressive* built quality is not too great - plasticky, made in china as everything else now a days.

The Nifty Fifty
By Sparsh Singhon
First thing's first.
This is a Great Lens!
I'll divide this review for getting to know various aspects of the lens more easily.
1.The Body.
The lens is very light and will not take much place in your camera bag.
The build is however not so great.
It pairs perfectly with my D5100 (DX-Format)
2.Focus.
With AF-S, the auto-focus is going to work with the entire Nikon line-up.
The auto-focus is very fast,(tough it's accuracy is going depend on the camera you're using)
The lens features a Manual/Auto Override: That enables you to take control on the focus even when its in auto-mode.
The lens also features a focus scale which is pretty accurate but which is very basic.
Please note that the lens is virtually compatible with any DSLR from Nikon and even with a few SLR's like the F5, F100 and the N75.
The closest focus distance is 1.5 feet
3.Aperture
Unlike it's predecessor the lens's smallest aperture is f/16 instead if f/18,(This will not have major effects in DOF and shooting in daylight conditions, unless of-course you need pro results)
But that the max aperture is where the lens really scores. At f/1.8 you'll have the ability to shoot at low light without tweaking the ISO or the Shutter Speed.
4.Performance
The lens is fast, and fun to use. With an aperture of 1.8 you'll be able to make brilliant bokeh. This lens is also very sharp, and brings out even the finest details.
After using the lens one finds that the lens is prone to ghosting and flares.Hood recommended at those times.
The lens elements do not protrude out or rotate during focus
It's a good improvement from the previous model in terms of color retention, sharpness, speed and flaring)
Pros: Max Aperture(Low-Light and Bokeh)
Fast Focus
Compatibility with a very wide range of Nikon SLR's and DSLR's
Weight and Size
Price
Cons: Flaring/Ghosting
Quality of Plastic(This is debatable from user-to-user)
Conclusion:- This is lens you should buy specially if you're looking for your first lens other then the kit and want improve upon your photography
It has a "awesome" price vs performance ratio.
Best in the market!

Mind-blowing purchase

The nifty fifty!!
Absolute gem of a lens. Prime in every sense. I was looking for an upgarde to my standard kit lens and my hobby of shooting portrait told me to go for this lens. After going through a lot of reviews on youtube, I finally ordered this lens on flipkart. The sharpness, the dynamic range, and the wide apperture make this lens a perfect choice for a beginner like me. These are some of my sample shots

35mm & 50mm are two superb prime lens you must have.Start working with one of this to get sharp, crisp & quality pictures. I will never say other lenses are bad but these 2 will meet all ur requirements. My cam is D5100. I replaced my 18-55mm kit lens with 18-105 for zooming & I bought 50mm & 35mm prime lens for everything else.
Pictures taken with both these lens are sharp, crisp & colourful. The brokeh effectof 35mm is good but not as good as 50mm. I give 5**** for both this lens for giving quality pictures in both High & low light. Its does a good job while shooting indoors. Both prime lens works great in all situations. It collects more light and allows you to shoot at higher shutter speeds to get crystal clear picture.
Don't think too much. Just go for it. My advice is buy both 35mm & 50mm prime lens. Now flipkart is giving it for half of its orginal price. I received my new 50mm prime lens 4 days back for 7678. When you are gonna get a lens for half of its present market price pls dont think too much about warranty issues. That is one useless point. A lens will start behaving bad only if u mishandle it. Always remember you will not get Warranty for mishandled products. so play safe with every lens & simply give them the best care.
They will never disappoint you.
Next point is pls dont compare 35mm vs 50mm prime lens too much. 50mm will zoom more when compared to 35mm. Thats the only differece. 35mm plays an important role When i do indoor group photography bcoz its wide enough to capture every one, some times with 50mm you may not get too much space to step back to accomadate every one in to one single frame correctly. I find 35mm is perfect for taking wide photographs. 35mm acts as 50mm and 50mm act as 75 mm in my cam(D5100), Just get a18-105 mm lens to know how much difference it makes with 50mm and 75mm zoom. My advice is get both.
Now the question is if you have a camera with an inbuilt auto-focus motor should i buy one of this. I would say buy 35 mm or 50 mmG lens only. Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D lensis available for Rs.5670. This model doesnt have am auto-focus motor but now flipkar is giving both lens below 8000 bucks so definitely its a good buy go for it boys. You are gonna find all other lens not crunchy, not sharp enough, too hefty and too expensive for their image quality .
I received my 50mm lens 4 days back. Seller: WS Retail.
5***** for len, 5***** for WS Retail & 5***** for flipkarts superb service & packing
So friends what are you waiting for? Order one of this lens todays
itself for half of its current market price ...
