Pros Good battery life while using Intel card
By Shashankon
ProsGood battery life while using Intel card.Linux works fine so far on this. Did not gave me any problem.Does not feel bulkyCons The hot air from exhaust hits write at the screen and makes it hot.Should have had SSD instead of HDD. The difference is noticeable if you have previously used laptop with SSD.Keyboard feels bad.Green backlit is cool but it does not have levels to dim. The very bright green light from the power button stays on all the time.
For the gamer, home or business user this laptop is hard to beat

This is a very sleek, compact gaming laptop. It's aimed at the mid-range market, but can still pack a surprising punch with the right settings.Initially I was disappointed with this. It seemed very slow and flakey - it did the Windows 10 equivalent of a blue screen about 4 or 5 times in the first day or so that I used it. However, after persevering with updates (Windows 10 seemed to be several major updates behind) the reliability picked up and no more crashes, then I uninstalled McCafee antivirus which came pre-installed and many tasks speeded up - especially booting up. Personally I have never been a fan of McCafee - it seems to eat a lot of machine resource as compared to things like Windows Defender or Sophos. No idea why HP feel the need to install McCafee - when the free Microsoft Defender does a good job and comes with Windows! WIth Defender activated the machine now feels much more like the on-paper spec would suggest. The graphics are a big selling point for this model and they do pretty well. I ran the freeware graphics "Heaven" benchmark package at 1080p resolution and in ultra high quality mode it mostly managed 20 frames per second - if you go down to just high quality mode it easily does 30 frames per second with no problems. Full screen HD video (1080p MP4 format tried) is handled effortlessly, though it does seem to struggle a little for the first couple of seconds while it gets the buffering going - after that no problem. That may be a Windows Media Player issue rather than the laptop though. I plan to install VLC on it and try that as it comes with its own CODEC and I'll report back on whether that resolves that minor issue.Storage, a 1Terabyte hard drive. I *might* have preferred an SSD - but of course you would not get the storage capacity at the same price point - some operations do seem a little disk-bound - such as a cold boot - which takes a lot longer than my work laptop which has an SSD. However, on laptops you pause rather than shutdown Windows most of the time; so, a slow cold-reboot is not a big deal really. On the subject of i/o related things... what genius decided that the disk activity light on modern laptops should go on the side panel? That light should be on the top surface somewhere where it is easily visible; It's so handy and reassuring to have it on view so that you can tell - at a glance - that the machine is doing something! Future laptop designers please note! The screen/lid fold action is nice, not too loose, not too stiff. The screen itself has a fairly limited viewing angle, but not annnoyingly so. The display is good and bright and you can control the brightness intensity from the top row of keys on the keyboard - as well as the audio volume and output to a second screen (via the HDM1 outpout). If you connect the HDMI output to a TV, the picture AND the sound can travel to the TV over the HDMI - you don't need a separate audio cable. The audio from the internal speakers is very good within the limitations of the form factor. The video camera built into the lid of course enables you to use things ike video Skype, Webex NetMeeting etc videophone functionality with very good light sensiitivy and built in LED to light you up in case you're in a low-light situation. The power unit is fairly standard. There is a relatively short AC side cable but a nice long DC-side cable. The keyboard action is nice, feels nice and its easy to get used to using. The laptop has some rubber grips on the underside to stop it sliding around during use - those work very well. The trackpad is nice - one oddity is that right clicking something on the task bar acts like a left click. The right click functionality works okay elsewhere - just behaves oddly on the task bar! A little research suggests that thsi is down to the Cortana feature of Windows 10 - which I have yet to decide whether to turn off or not. With Siri and Alexa already at my beck and call I'm not sure I need another disembodied minion helping me do things!Battery life - at this early stage in my machine's life - seems to be about 4-5 hours when just browsing about and intermittently wandering away for a while. Clearly battery life is dependent upon usage and age of the battery so your milage will vary.Small stuff: Packaging - was not excessive - though the 3-pin plug cosy is an unnecessary waste, but compared to an HP printer that I bought at about the same time, this was frugally packaged.so: In summary - a very competent machine which will need to be completely updated before you can usefully use it - if you share my aversion to McCafee you may want to uninstall it as I did and enable Windows Defender instead. Graphics seem to me very good for a laptop and on for performance and storage capacity I'm confident that this will do anything I need.It comes with a load of pre-installed application on it which I have not yet explored - and probably never will!If you like my Review don't forget to hit HELPFUL, if not please comment for my best update.
A great choice for the price

Amazing laptop excellent build and the green accents look cool too.A decent choice for gaming,it plays almost all games...get heated after couple hours but the fans work well.My only concern is the vents let out directly infront of the screen.

Fantastic Laptop with balanced configuration. Games are pretty smooth to play and the cost justified by the performance.
