I made a windfall gain by grabbing this product from this site on 18.9.14 a price of Rs.16680/-. After shooting little over 300 pictures, I am of the impression that it is really worth the investment, not to speak of the fact that it is significant upgrade of your kit lens. I already have in my kitty one Nikon 1.8G, one Sigma 18-200. I am of the view that it exceeds performance of my 1.8G Nikon prime lens, although not as much considering impressive bokeh effect of the prime lens. The image sharpness is almost uniform over aperture ranging from F4 although best result can be had between F8 and F11 over all all focal lengths, particularly shooting in broad day light. The auto focus is a bit noisy but fast and accurate. The uniform F2.8 across focal lengths is quite helpful in indoor and low light shooting.. However the minus point is absence of VR which you should accept unless you agree to pay another 10k. However I feel VR is really not needed when light is sufficient to retain shutter speed at above 1/50th ,
Overall it is an efficient performer, a true value for money and budget friendly.
Good Lens for a good price
By AR Pictureson
I ordered this on flipkart. So far good results I can see. good lens for a beginner, if you are into portrait I suggest to go for the 28-75 version rather than this one. that should be fine. There is slight aberration but not visible though unless you take pain to notice it. Overall good lens.
Best everyday zoom lens Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8
By AMITAVA RAYon
The Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] is a very serious performer capable to deliver very sharp images at all focal lengths. Vignetting and distortion are about average for a lens in this class. CAs are a bit on the high side towards the short end of the focal range.
Unfortunately the lens suffers from strong field curvature at 17mm which may push the corner portions out-of-focus. The level of distortion is about average in this class whereas vignetting and lateral CAs could be somewhat better.
Mechanically the lens isn't top notch but it compares very well to other lenses in this price class. Thanks to the very moderate price tag the lens is highly attractive and definitely worth a deeper look when shopping for a quality standard zoom lens for any APSC DSLR and it's also a very interesting alternative to the genuine OEM standard zooms.

I got this lens with an exchange offer and it took 12.5K approx! R u surprised!! Yes, me tooo.. This is FLIPKART.
The delivery is super fast, packaging is very good.
About the lens:
1. It is F2.8 lens so you can take picture in very low light condition also.
2. Autofocus is fast.
3. Image quality is very sharp.
4. PRO like experience
5. Focus ring is very smooth.
2.There are some barrel distortion at 17mm end, but it completely gone at some higher focal length.
Overall, the cons are negligible w.r.t. the pros. Get it and feel like PRO. :-)
Lens for daily use.
By Rajesh Ramdason
I am using this lens along with my Nikon D7000 for daily use. I am not a professional photographer. I use this instead of Nikon 18-200VR which I quite heavy.
The pictures are really good even in low light.
The price offered in flip kart was excellent.
It's an okay buy.
The lens is not so drastically good in low light when compared to the standard 18-55 3.5-5.6 lens. Bokeh is decent. It's an okay buy.

My Everyday Lens
I bought Tamron (I call it Tammy) 17-50 as substitute lens of 18-55 lens which came boxed with my Canon 550D.
After attaching 17-50 to my 550D, I have rarely replaced it for day to day shooting. The image sharpness and low light performance is wonderful. As I can not afford L-lens, this lens gave me outstanding performance. Also, because of this lens, my clicks are getting good review. The focusing is quite good. The weight of this lens has added stability in my hands while shooting. My friends who has borrowed this lens from me also want to buy it. Really good value for money.
Due to constant aperture 2.8 from 17 to 50mm range, I am able to use this fast lens in low light as well and still got excellent results. Therefore, very good for indoor and street photography specially in low light.
The lens comes with hood also which is quite handy and easy to keep in bag while not in use.
Sharp and fast lens
By Siddhartha Kundalkaron
I purchased this lens from Flipkart and the shipping time and packaging was excellent.
This lens is very sharp and focuses quite well in AF. It is somewhat heavy and seems solidly built.
AF hunts a little bit in low light, but I suppose that's common to quite a few lenses. Also, there's some lens flare when shooting into the sun, but not too much and I don't mind it so much.
All in all, I'm happy with the lens and use it as my primary lens on my EOS 30D.

Excellent lens! Used it in a family get together, a bird sanctuary and on a trek. Got great results everywhere. Indoor photos in tight spaces were otherwise not possible. Got great indoor photos in low light situations. Very affordable all-in-one lens, which can easily replace kit lens..

Images are not sharp.. Corners dark in full zoom.. AF slow.. overall ok lens for travelling purpose..
This lens has some significant limitations, but you can work around them
This lens has some significant limitations. That said, if you are ok with those limitations and can work around it. You will be fine. I used it with the Canon 750D.1) The auto-focusing mechanism is slow. This may be because of a really complex lens assembly. It's not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of while shooting.2) The corners of the pictures are darker on full zoom. You can see this in pictures with light backgrounds. Like when you zoom into the moon in the day time or shooting against a blue sky.3) When the AF mechanism focuses, the lens assembly jitters before it settles down. When you release the half press, it jitters again. It does not affect the final pictures. But it is disconcerting.4) AF does not get a lock easily in the Live View mode. Even worse, I got no AF lock in broad day light. (This is apparently because of how Canon, processes AF in VF vs Live View) This is supposed to be a walkabout lens, which means that I should be able to use it in all situations, including shooting over crowds etc. If I can't get a lock on the AF in this mode, it hampers me significantly. That said, the lens is good while using with VF. Good performance in low light even at long zoom. (I will post some pictures later). If you use the camera exclusively in the VF mode or are ok with the limitations mentioned above, please go ahead and get this. The way the lens brings things closer is amazing.
very happy with the results
