A sure winner

I was skeptical about buying this at first , but after reading a couple of reviews on internet I knew it would be a good buy.
This is an EF lens , and it works on both full and cropped sensor cameras. I have used this on 550D for nearly 2 months , hence my review is limited to its performance on cropped-ones.
Buy it , without thinking twice , if you want to do :
* candid photography (mainly outdoors)
* portraits
* covering sports like basketball , tennis etc
* picnics , parties , outings
* low-light
* Bokeh
* Magical photos - This lens truly does something fantastic to your images- no other lens can beat it.
Don't buy it for :
* Indoor photography (85 mm has 1.6 multiplier for cropped cameras)
* Taking snaps in occasions where you can't move (true for all prime lenses)
* Macro shots ( this has a minimum focus distance of 1m. If you want macro + portraits , try 100 mm - another good lens)
Pros : Light , USM is good , Huge aperture ( this lens is a light guzzler), good touch , feel and build.
Cons : Nothing I can think of except recent price hike by Canon.

I have not purchased this lens from Flipkart but from cannon showroom. It is a excellent lens for portrait photography. Sharpness is unimaginable. I have purchased it after reading so many good reviews in the internet. And I think the reviews are true. This lens is indeed exceptional. If you are an armature and want to take some excellent professional standard portrait photos and have budget then this lens is for you.
Pros :
1) Unimaginable sharp photos.
2) Fast AF.
3) Buttery colors.
Cons :
1) I think 32K is slightly costly. Not everybody (armature) can spend 32K on a lens. professionals probably wont use this lens.

This lens is so sharp it almost hurts! It's definitely sharper than my Canon 50mm 1.2L and that thing costs 3 times the price. This baby's light, focuses really quickly and quietly and has a terrific build (plenty good, unless you're going to subject your lens to the very extreme, by which I mean something like an Iraq war). Not too expensive (I got mine for Rs.24k, prices, sadly, have gone up). The bokeh is superb too. Focus ring just stiff enough for comfy video focus pulls. Couldn't, even if I tried, come up with a single reason why the wad of cash in your safe is any better than this little glass beauty. Get it whenever you can afford it. I own four L-Lenses and this one just outdid every single one of them in image quality.

First kudos to Flipkart shipping. I was simply astounded when the delivery came to my home. Just 2 days from the day of order. Now to the lens. I think its worth every penny. First I had lot of thoughts whether to buy or not , but it is a brilliant lens to shoot. Got the lens Yesterday. Waiting for the weekend to shoot in streets. I would suggest all professionals who are stuck to a budget can buy this lens without any second thoughts.

Beautiful lens with beautiful bokeh

This is an absolutely gorgeous lens. Produces really sharp results even at F/1.8. However for best results stop it down to F/2.0. Gives that creamy bokeh in the out of focus areas which is really essential for portrait photography.Would highly recommend this lens in addition to your 50mm F/1.8 lens even though this lens doesn't have IS or is an old lens from Canon.

It's one of the best lenses that I have bought. The picture comes out very sharp and crisp. Would definitely recommend this lens if you like to travel and visit new places this is a good basic lens that can help you get decent pics.
A good buy

Ok, it has been some time since I bought this lens. This my first EF fixed focal length lens with a large aperture. I took about 300 pictures with this lens on Canon 6d MKII. The pictures are very sharp. The lens focuses very fast and remains locked on. The big aperture gives you the chance to twiddle with the ISO and exposure settings. Again, because of the big aperture, portraits are great with the softness required. I normally focus on the eyes or the bridge of the nose and I am very happy with the results. I think such lenses are meant to be used on full frame cameras. The outdoor pictures that I took were as I expected them to be, perfect. The background blurring is good. I think it is a tad heavy but I am not complaining because it keeps the camera steady which is good since the lens does not have IS. The lens is made in Japan which has given me more confidence. The price is though on the higher side than what is available in retail shops. The lens was not available in the local Canon showroom hence Amazon. I am not disappointed.
