(Updated : 13th December, 2014 / Useless info removed, more useful info added) Hi Readers, Short Review : Upgraded my Laptop's total RAM by adding this with the existing 4GB 1600MHz. Both of them are working in synchronous dual channel mode. The improvement was definitely noted, as it decreased the usage of virtual memory. Performance Test (PassMark) : Memory (previously, since 4GB 1600MHz) - 1200 ~ Memory (current, 2x 4GB @ 1600MHz) - 1800 ~ (NOTE: When your system is using 70% of RAM, it starts using Hard Drive as virtual memory for storing some cached processes and stuff, which ultimately results in slowing down, since usually hard drives aren't fast enough to handle all this load.) IMPORTANT NOTE (written by me, not copied) : 0. Download CPU-Z and know about the RAM you currently have (details below will need you to compare it). SPD Tab is what you should be looking at. (Also, MT/s is the correct terms to use, i.e. 800MHz = 1600MT/s and not 1600 MHz, so when I mention MT/s below. If you get confused, just read it as MHz for now) 1. Modern Laptops (Intel Core Gen 3 and 4, for now) comes with Factory RAM which is running at 1600 MT/s (800MHz) 1.35V commonly or 1.25V rarely. This RAM however, is 1.5V. It won't harm your PC, but on battery, power consumption will be a little more. (for 1.35V, look for Kingston Low Voltage RAM) 2. If you stock RAM is running at 1333 MT/s or 1066 MT/s then don't expect this one to run at 1600 MT/s, this will match the speed of other RAM. (A review from someone rated this 1/5 just because it didn't matched original speed). Whichever RAM (either stock/factory or new one) has slower frequency, the other one matches that. 3. (4+4)GB is better than (4+8)GB or (2+4)GB. By this you'll achieve Synchronous Dual Channel (same size of both RAM) and not Asynch Dual channel (different size of both RAM). Difference may not be much (unnoticeable by normal user). Google about it for more details. Obviously if you are into light gaming, browsing and other day to day task, you can plug different sizes of RAM without worrying much. 4. Do not upgrade unnecessarily. Sometimes people think that just randomly increasing RAM increases speed. NO IT DOESN'T. It just helps in maintaining speed (by reducing Virtual memory processing). For a real speed improvement, consider upgrading HDD to SSD (improves booting time, programs startup times, by about 10x). And CPU, if you have CPU intensive work. 5. You don't need to upgrade RAM unless you are hitting 70% memory usage (according to Task manager stats). For an average user, 4GB is plenty, but for heavy surfing and anything that makes you hit 70% of current physical RAM, you can consider upgrading. 6. Always consider running a MEMTEST x86 on newly purchased RAM to ensure it's working. If possible, try it alone (by replacing with Existing RAM). 7. If you get BSODs after upgrade, try running one RAM at a time. Sometimes RAM isn't faulty, but just incompatible. In that case, either upgrade older RAM as well, or try to replace newly one with something that is compatible. 8. Always clean the memory slots before inserting RAM. It's likely to have dust in it, if it was an empty slot. Also clean RAM connections (on DIMM) by using eraser (pencil eraser) with light hand, if needed. 10. Lastly, don't just go for renowned Brands. I've seen dead Corsairs and I've seen a 5 year old Transcend working perfectly, as good as new. Hi, i ordered Transcend JetRam DDR3 4 GB Laptop RAM JM1600KSN-4G but i recieved transcend ddr3 4gb ran JM1600KSH-4G.(Both product codes are different). product also in simple packaging entirely different from above flipkart shown image. i thought to return it but due to my urgency i installed it on my sony vaio e series laptop. already i have gb ram but hanging so much due to heavy processes are running.so i extended to 4+4 gb now. i will check whewther its working fine or else i will return it. I AM rating just 3 stars now.
