Bad Product ....just milking the brand name

By Ranjit Nairon
COMPARISON-1 You get same build quality, same specs , same android version in 10,000/- Rs (karbonn, xolo, micromax ... name it). The only upside may be 0.3 inch bigger screen. COMPARISON-2 Huawei Ascend Mate is better in all aspects. Better display (IPS+ with gorilla glass ) double the resolution, double the Battery, bigger screen at 6.1 inch, far better build quality , better camera, double the CPU, far better graphics (16-cores) , better ram memory ..... just about everything is better , that too by big margin. The only thing that Mega equals Mate is internal Storage of 8gb. ... and 2 places were it improves upon mate : 1. Android version of 4.2 against 4.1 . This hardly matters. Just a software update away. 2. Dual SIM ( this may be important for some people) But more than these comparisons the message from Samsung is bad ...... " I give you Indians cheap product with my label on it. And you give me 12,000 more from your pocket". SORRY SAMSUNG!.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 I9152 is one awesome gadget. Pros: 1 Huge Screen 2. Excellent Camera Quality(both primary and secondary) 3. Highly capable RAM 4. Excellent touch sensitivity 5. Full HD video playback Cons: 1. Size can be an issue for some! 2. Unnecessary negative reviews about this gadget. Honestly speaking I did not find any negative thing about this machine. Tips : Lookout for the deals that Flipkart offers!! MRP 24620 Citibank 10% cashback= 2462 BT Headset free 699 16 Gb Micro SD FREE 702 So effective price for me: 24620-2462-699-702=20757 !! Also VODAFONE new connection has provided me with 2 GB 3G Data/month for 2 months!!!! In all my bundle of joy!!

An almost perfect dual-sim phablet

By Sumit Mukherjeeon
When I was looking for a capable phablet that could actually be held by one hand only, I found 6.3" was the max that I could go with. Then, I found dual-sim was a requirement for me; and therefore, Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8" dual-sim seemed to be the best fit. It came with a complementary 2600 mAh Maxx PBS-26-SDI Smart Charger and Plantronics ML2 Bluetooth Headset. I also bought a Samsung 64 GB MicroSD Pro Class 10 Memory Card for storage and a Hard Armor Bumper Flip Stand Back Case for protection. After ~ 6 months of extensive use as a phabletop (phone/tablet/laptop; yes, I defy to define it), my Mega with its 114 downloaded apps (yep, you got it, downloaded, and not native) just works. This is now my Alarm Clock | Calculator | Calendar | Camera | Compass | Dictionary | eBook Reader | Flash Drive | Flashlight | Gaming Console | GPS | Mirror | MP3 Player | Photo Frame | Radio | Scanner | TV | Voice Recorder | Wireless Keyboard & Mouse. Did I tell ya it's a lil computer, too? Oh yes, I now use my laptop only when a particular job is difficult to do here, or cannot be done here at all. Mega has 1.5 GB RAM; therefore, despite not having a quad-core processor, it is fast. Never buy a smartphone (especially, android) with less than 1 GB RAM! The screen resolution is qHD, but it looks quite acceptable to me. The design could be better, but you are getting a removable battery here. I like the Charger with USB Charge and Sync Cable. The in-ear headset with volume control is cool, too (my ears cannot hold standard earphones). And, it fits in my pocket (except for tight jeans). Complaints? Not too many… One issue is that this device works good only with Samsung branded earphones/headphones; well, that’s weird. I wish it could run FULL version (and, not mobile version) of Microsoft Office. As of now, no phones or phablets can run full MS Office (I tested it). If, for example, a PowerPoint file having embedded audios, videos, transitions, animations could be read in a phone/phablet as if it were being read in a laptop/desktop, it would be great (I don’t care about office edit capability in a phone/phablet, lemme just read!). The smart 2600 mAh charger is a nice addition since smartphones need a lot of power. Mega has a 2600 mAh battery (not too good, IMHO), so you should keep an emergency charger like this with you. Tips: To save battery and to make the phone faster, 1) go to Settings > More > Developer options > Drawing, and select “Animation is off” for all. 2) use “Active applications” widget to stop running unnecessary applications, uninstall unnecessary downloaded applications, clear RAM. 3) go to Settings > More > Storage and clear cached data. Use the BT headset especially when you are driving. 64 GB card is meant for digital life; in addition, I move the downloaded apps to the card whenever allowed (Settings > More > Application manager) since the available internal storage space is not enough. It’s a class 10 card, so speed is pretty good. The hard case not only protects Mega but also offers a better grip (it’s a huge phone!). It does not add significant bulk either. It has a foldable stand in the back so that you can use the device as a digital photo frame and a TV. Thanks Samsung/Google for creating a phone (?) that offered me an AIO. Thanks also go to Flipkart for awesome combo offer and flawless delivery. And, thanks (but no thanks) to naysayers that I have had a faith on Android. Should you buy this NOW? Well, that depends. Samsung has come up with Grand 2, which is better than this in almost every aspect except for the screen size (Grand 2 has 5.25”, but a better PPI in Grand 2 may compensate for a bit smaller screen). My dream phablet? Oh well, the unfortunate thing is that dual-sim phablets are not available with very high-end specs (so called flagship category). Gimme a dual-sim phablet (~ 6”) with top-notch specs and MS Office functionality, and I am sold!
