I bought these solely based on the 2 reviews available on Flipkart(one of which was a copy paste from some website) and a video review done on Youtube and a few other forum posts. I bought them based on the goodwill that SoundMagic has.
Coming to the product I've been using them for the past one month and they are amazing.
They have a sweet balance of Highs, Lows and the Mids. I rarely tinker with my EQ settings now and keep them off on my phone. The base is not at all overpowering but you get the bass that was meant to be there. It doesn't get muddy at all.
The soundstage of these is what I love. I listen to my tracks and find sounds which were just inaudible in my previous set of buds(I do get a sweet smile on my face when this happens).
Noise Isolation is great and you'll rarely need to keep the volume at its highest, I hit my sweet spot at 70-80%.
Talking about the build and then design, they're pretty solid with half metal construction that looks good. I got the army-sort-of-green variant which has grown up on me (I was expecting black). It's dubbed as gunmetal color by the company. The wire has a twisted coating on it and looks durable enough for a lot of wear and tear. It's sold as anti tangle but it does tangle a bit but not to the extent that you can't untangle it in 10 seconds.
The wire looks a bit different from the other IEMs out there but it's pretty amazing design.
The shirt clip is a useful addition and helps a lot while wearing these while workout or running.
I can't find a single con for this product and that's a pretty good deal at this price range. Not to mention, you get a nice pouch with it.
All in all these are great set of IEMs and if you have the 1.3k to spend, then these are the best in 1.5-2k range. I also suggest checking out Sony XB30EX for their bass inclined profile.
Flipkart did piss me off with its delivery which took 10 days and I was kept in the black for 7 days with no updates on my track order page, after which I had to call them up and ruffle up some feathers to make them update and deliver it.
The delivery guy was an awesome fella, who understood my eagerness on phone and came to deliver at 9:15 in the night.
Here's my review for the SoundMAGIC ES20 based on 5 parameters namely design, build, performance, comfort and value for money:
Design: The aluminium finish makes them noticeable. They look good but not good enough to complement their price tag.
Build: Though made of extremely lightweight plastic, overall build quality is good with a well built connector, braided cable and separator. The finish of the earbuds however seem to be prone to wear.
Performance: The 13.5 mm drivers deliver detailed and well balanced sound which has great clarity. The bass has depth but it could do with more punch. Highs are clear and the soundstage is quite wide. Sound isolation is average as they do not have a tight fit.
Comfort: It takes some fiddling to get a proper fit but once you do, they are comfortable to wear provided you use the right size tips for your ears. Because of their shape however, the fit is not deep.
Value for money: They come with a tangle-free braided cable, a shirt clip, three pairs of silicone ear-tips and a synthetic leather carry pouch. Combine that with great sound quality and you get a good deal for the money.
Verdict: These earphones perform well with clear sound and a wide soundstage, only missing out on sound isolation. A reliable pair to own for those who expect a quality audio experience.
Do check out all my earphone reviews. I recommend using triple flange ear-tips with the SoundMAGIC ES20 for a deeper fit and better sound isolation.
mind blowing headphone. When traffic noice stuck you put these earphone and block the outer world. I feel crazzy with these earphones..
Just what I wanted
By Kalpesh Rajdeoon
Before these I had SoundMagic ES18 which lasted for three years.
When they finally gave in. I was impressed enough by them to get myself an upgrade.
So I got ES20.
The bass is deep (Like it says on the box). Not too Boomy not Bursty at all just the precise bass one can listen to when listening to any genre (I listen to Blues, Rock, Alternative, Indie and Hard Rock bands). All of them sound greater than I thought they did.
I can hear the slightest tingle of the smallest instrument in the loudest song by any band or genre. That is exactly what I was looking for.
Treble to feel the acoustics and bass hitting the back of my head, just so I can feel the entire spectrum of the song.
For 1100 bucks. These are not too shabby.
The sound is a quantum leap up from the cheap earbuds supplied with most MP3 players, with warm deep bass and plenty of detail in the trebles.
While you might expect a cheap earphone to be badly made, the ES20 is a part aluminium construction and comes fitted with good quality braided cabling (normally reserved for high end in-ear monitor earphones) with strain relief that is built to last. The quality of the product is truly commendable. The ES20 is like the baby brother of the award winning SoundMAGIC E10 which adds a full metal body and even higher sound quality - for a little more money.
