Comparison of 3 HDs
By Avik Majumderon
This review talks about 3 harddisks: WD My Passport, WD Elements, Seagate Expansion. Passport is 2 years old, Expansion is 1 year old and I bought the Elements yesterday.
For Elements people complained about heating and vibration. I copied 252GB from Expansion to Elements in one go and I found the heating and vibration to be completely under normal limits. Do not forget this is not a SSD that it will not vibrate. However in Elements the vibration is more felt (than Passport or Expansion) because of its sleek shape. The internal metal hard drive casing is in direct contact with the external plastic body and there is very minimal damping between the two. This will create no problem at all.
While I was copying, my source drive (Passport) was connected to a USB 2 port and the destination drive (Elements) was connected to USB 3 port. I found the transfer speed was a continuous 30MB/sec. [I was copying 252GB in 952 items]
My other experience:
Build quality of Expansion is worst among these 3. Even the internal hard drive is cased within a plastic body which makes this the lightweight among these 3.In build the best is Passport.
I suggest go for WD My Passport.
Check the cord on a USB 3.0 port
By Abhishek Subramaniamon
Check the cord on a working USB 3.0 port as soon as you buy it.
I got one with a defective cord that worked fine on USB 2 but did not work on USB 3
Since I did not have a USB 3 port at the time I could not check it.
Trying to get it exchanged now.
Will review the comment as soon as something is done about it.

Thin easy to carry
Cheap or inexpensive

Good Looking, Compact and Fast.

Ordered the product on 15th July and received on 17th July, so thanks flipkart for their excellent service.
As it is WD Element, so I have compared it with WD My Passport, and found these differences.
1. The dimension of my WD Element is 111 x 82 x 15 mm whereas dimension of WD My Passport is 111 x 82 x 19 mm, So WD Element is quite slicker than WD My Passport.
2. Weight of WD Element is 130 gm whereas weight of WD My Passport is 194 gm, So WD Element is lighter than WD My Passport.
So in both this case WD Elements wins over WD My Passport.
3. WD Elements comes with only one color that is Black, but WD My Passport comes with 4 different colors (Black, Blue, Red, Silver).
4. WD My Passport has Password protection and hardware encryption facility where as WD Elements doesn't have so.
So WD My Passport wins over WD Elements here.
Now choose the model among this two by your own requirements.
Also in My Passport review section I have found that, some user complained about vibrating issue and heating issue.
But in last few days I have transfer 20-25 GB files at once several times but doesn't found any vibrating issue and not at all any heating problem.
So I am very much satisfied with this product and recommending it to my friends if they are not interested about Password protection and hardware encryption facility.
The only problem what I have found is that the transfer cable is very much short only 15inch(I think).
Good space, good looks
By Amazon Customeron
Good space, good looks, good connection, not very quick but does the job. however, sometimes it does not get recognized and you gotta do a thing in your control panel ("add new device" after which it suddenly gets recognized).
Good for Backups when used with USB 3
By Gaurav Prabhuon
A decent drive to backup your data. Offers speed upto 90mb/s when used with a USB 3.0 port. The casing is plastic so it is surely not rugged. I would recommend this only to those who want to take backups and store the drive away safely with less transportation. Better to get a hard case for storage and transportation. The red colour looks refreshing. The bundled cable is short like what most offer.
Awesome! Colorful! ...and fast too!
This Hard Drive is awesome! I'm writing this review after using it for 3 days now...Here are the Pros :1. Write speeds sometimes can go up to 100 Mb/s. (Usually ranges from 25 to 60 Mb/s).2. When it was delivered, it was smaller than I thought it would be, so thanks to portability.3. Price on the box says ?5830, so I got this at only ?3899 from Amazon, so a good saving. Here are the Cons :1. Built quality is not so good. If you press it with your hand then it'll make squeaky noises like loosely fitted plastics. By these things, I can estimate that this definitely not for rough use (so please try not to drop it).2. This hard drive has a design of half bottom of a matte finish and the upper half of glossy finish with WD logo on it. You'll soon get slight scratches on the glossy part. Touching Glossy & Matte together is irritating sometimes...Here is the comparison between Seagate & WD... Just like everyone, before buying this even I was confused between Seagate & Western Digital (WD). I had to go with due to the following 3 reasons...1. While reading reviews, WD had a higher rating and better reviews from customers.2. WD had a bunch of colors to choose from, while on the other side Seagate had only 2 colors.3. I had seen people use WD more than Seagate. Also, people who are using it, their WD HDD is lasting longer than Seagate.
not working anymore
didn't last even a year even though it claims to be shock tolerant etc and data recovery from partners too costly.
Works very well with VU and TCL TV's after the drive format
By Amazon Customeron
Initially it was so much troublesome as I was trying to connect with my TCL and VU TV's. But unfortunately I wasn't able to connect with it. After lots of research I found that this device supposed to re-formatted to GPT partition. For this I had to format the drive from windows disk management tool and convert to GPT partition. Then all my TV's can recognise and play anything. Other than this format issue I am very much happy with the purchase.
