Great budget phone with lots of bugs.
By Mayank aggarwalon May 19, 2016 12:00:00 AM
Great budget phone with lots of bugsSuggestion : Never rush to buy a phone at the time of launch, wait at least for 2 months and look for the initial reviews, unboxing videos and problems faced by the first buyers, and then only buy a phone and also the updates provided by the company in order to solve the issues. In this review I'll focus mainly on the issues that many people are complaining about as many people has already discussed its pros and cons.1. Heating issues:Many people are complaining about the heating of phone while charging and playing games. They must understand that after all its summer when the room temperature is around 40'c so how can someone expect it to be less than that. And also the body is made of metal, so heating is a normal issue. Also Hugo Barra has itself disclosed the same in his presentation while launching the phone that the temperature is around 40-43'c while playing games.Sol: It's better to charge when the fan or ac is on so that it does not heat up too high.2. Camera:Issue: camera is not upto the markThe price tag of the phone is 12k and not 40k. What else do you expect from a 12k phone.I think the camera is decent to take selfie and other pics. I accept that the pics are not upto the mark in low light and the video quality is also not good but the overall performance in daylight is decent.3. Fingerprint sensor:Till date it is working fine, and expects that it works as it is throughout its life. No issues were addressed on this.4. Sensors:All sensors are working fine as expected. Initially gyroscope was not working correctly but now its working good.5. Updates:After the recent update of miui 7.3.2 (update available on 17 may, 2015) most of the bugs are cleared and you can take selfie using your print. Also the miui 8 will be provided in future for this phone as announced by MI.6. Sim not working:Many users have complained that there sim slot is not working properly and also having bad reception. I think those are BSNL/MTNL user with such complains but with other carriers it is working fine. Also the 2nd sim slot is not 4G its only 2G7. Battery:It has a massive 4000mah battery under its hood which is sufficient for a daily use. Conclusion: initially I was skeptical of buying this phone but now I can say it worthy of a 12k price tag.In the recent past several new phones has been launched, such asYu yunicorn vs ZUK Z1 vs LE ECO 2 vs Moto G4 vs Meizu m3 note.1. Yu Yunicorn: (Price Rs. 13000): Don’t buy this phone as it has the same specification as the Meizu m3 note which costs around Rs.100002. Zuk Z1: (Price Rs. 13500): In comparison to mi note 3 it only has more memory i.e., 64GB and better camera but low performance processor for which you have to spend 1500 more. So, this can be avoided.3. Moto G4: (Price Rs. 15000): In comparison to mi note 3 it only has better camera and experience of stock android and low performance processor for which you have to spend extra 3000.Hence, it can again be avoided.4. Meizu m3 note: (Price Rs. 9999): Only the processor is of low performance otherwise the phone is really good. But the problem is that it is a new company in India and the number of service centres are low.5. LE ECO 2: (Price Rs. 12000): now this is a phone that pose not as a competition but threat to Xiaomi. Better processor (SD 652), better camera and UI, lighter in weight. The only cons are: No memory card slot, no 3.5mm jack and only 3000mah battery is providedOtherwise it is a true competition to mi note 3.Yes, you can definitely go to buy this phone if you don't like xiaomi. Also it would have been great if Xiaomi had provided a screen guard and body cover inside the box as we have to shop it from outside at a really high cost. Please mark this review as helpful if you find it, so that it encourage me to write proper reviews to tell you the true picture of a particular mobile phone.

Innovative and fluid phone. Total value for money
By Sinchan Deyon Mar 23, 2016 12:00:00 AM
I am using the phone from last 10 days. Will break down my review in three parts. The pros, cons and what more could be done.First let's see the pros that make it the best value for money phone currently in the market.* Huge battery : easily getting around 7 hours of screen on time. Battery is an issue with smartphones today. This phone is just a beast. It easily get overs 1 and half a day with quite heavy usage.* Screen Quality: easily one of the best screen we can find in the market at this price point. Very vibrant crisp and colours seems very bright. There is some kind of protection on the screen making it smudge free.*Build Quality: nothing sort of amazing. The metal body feels strudy and give a premium feel. The design is very ergonomic, curved edges makes it easier to hold though it has a huge screen. The phone is also very light weight and looks great.* Fingerprint Scanner: the scanner is blazing fast. The position is perfect for using your index finger to unlock. I tried it using 5 different fingers it without any hiccup.*Fast processor: the new spandragon 650 is very smooth and amazingly powerful. I was bit sceptical about it at the beginning, but am really blown up by the processing speed and it's power handling whatever thrown at it. Heating is comparatively very minimal compared to its predecessors.* IR blaster : that is great and works with most of electronic devices. The best thing is that you can use third party apps too that gives you more control over the usage of the IR blaster.* Clear voice calls: this is a neglected aspect but Xiaomi has done a great job here. The calls are crystal clear without any distortion. VoLTE is an added functionality that is the future of the mobile networks soon. So you can be future proof with the device.*Heavy gaming: not an issue with the fast professor and ample RAM. Can play any graphic intensive game easily. Modern combact 5, Asphalt 8 runs smooth. Also the device doesn't get heated up to an uncomfortable level. So that is a plus.* Sound quality speaker and headphones: the speaker is satisfactory. The quality is good. A little low at volume to my liking. Xiaomi added a small plastic hinge. That helps the speaker to be above the ground even if places flat on table. So sounds don't get blocked up. The sound through headphones are really amazing and crisp. Use good quality headphones, I use sennheisers gives a great output. Love the sound output through the headphones.*Sensors: all major sensors present in the device. Along with the gyroscope that gives you the option to enjoy the YouTube 360 degree videos and stuffs.*other features I liked are the vibration motor. It gives a hepatic feedback while you type. I like the feel of the vibration motor. Not very aggressive and comfortable. Just what you need. No lag even when you use third party launcher. I use Google launcher I didn't find any lag or hiccups all these days.Sshhhuu. A lot of pros.. Let's check out the cons now.* Charging time: there is Qualcomm fast charge 1. But sadly that is not fast compared to today's standards where many devices are coming around with fast charge option. The battery is huge so it would really take a long 2.30-3 hours to charge from 0-100%.* Camera: a little disappointed with the camera. The Quality is great in ample lighting conditions. But struggle in low light and complex lighting conditions. Dual tone flash gives a better exposed picture in darkness. Hope it gets a little better with software updates. That can be done expected as the sensor is quite good.* No water resistance: yeah that is a must now a days owing to the changing trends in the smartphones usage. You can live without it but it's good to have it .*MIUI is very bloaty uses a lot of the internal space available. It has been a matter of dislike for me using the MIUI. I have been using MI phones from last 2 n half years. MiUi is bit irritating. That's totally my view. Some may like the scope of customisation it offers. But I like a clean android experience. I suggest use Google Now Launcher if you want to have a clean android experience.Still this cons doesn't take away the crown of best value for money smartphone in the market at present. What Xiaomi can improve in the device.* Make the camera performance a little better especially in low light conditions. Hope that is coming soon in the next updates.* Add functionality like scrolling, shutter button and app lock option to the Fingerprint Scanner. It was hinted at the launch event. So we can expect that very soon in the next updates. Especially the app lock option. That is very handy and useful.*Improve the RAM management so that you are left with a little more RAM free. You can usually get around 980MB free on the 2 GB variant and around 1.9GB on the 3GB variant.Sorry I guess I took a lot of time..: pHope the review is helpful. If you find it helpful rate it as helpful. That is appreciated.Wish everyone happy holi. Enjoy the beast.Update: I hope most of the guys have got the OTA updates. I found the new update helpful. The added app lock fingerprint feature is great. Works seamlessly with every app u choose to lock.* I tested the camera too and found a little improvement under low lighting conditions. It's very minor changes but it gives hope for some better changes to come in future updates.* the wallpaper carousel if a very stylish feature. I really like it.*though the update has given some good features am still waiting for the fingerprint selfie to be added. Hope that's coming soon.If any one of you have it officially. Please let me know the ROM.Cheers ...will see u guys in some other tech review.update after new update and rigorous usageThe phone is running fine but some little issues have come to my notice..* The major issue is with the pocket dial lock..it troubles a lot sometimes.. u have to use volume key and back button to turn it off even when it is lying on the table..* the camera is little improved in low light but sadly new competitors have better cameras in this price range.. like the..Moto G4, Zuk Z1..* The battery life also seems to have degraded..getting around 6- 6.30rs screen on time* The fingerprint selfie is added to the camera feature good feature to have*The phone does not seem that much snappy as earlier..* The internal memory is though less...go for the 32gb version.

A phone that beats all its competition (In 10K to 18K price band)
By Siddharth sethion May 10, 2016 12:00:00 AM
DELIVERY and PACKAGING:Amazon stands to its image on packaging and delivery. The phone was packed in a bubble wrap and pouch(no amazon carton, but phone box was there).IN THE PACK:- Mi Note 3 Phone.- Charger- USB cum charging cable- Few manuals (no one reads them these days)- SIM tray opening pinREVIEW:After checking specifications of the phone in price range of 10K to 18K, I could not find a better option than Mi Note 3. It's hard to get the phone in flash sales in one try (Xiaomi's less stock to blame), but it is worth the effort.I was looking for a phone which becomes my daily driver and after comparisons, finalized on Note 3. For my review I did not go through stress testing apps, (high performance game testing, 3D bench marks, etc) as I do not use them daily.PROS:- Back is all metal. This is the first thing that you would notice when you hold the phone. Amazing feel !!!!- Its thin. Don't expect it to be thin as expensive phones, but I can totally compare it to them.- The screen is huge and reproduces good colors. Watching Videos is fun on a 5.5 inch screen.- Thin bezels. Bezel is the gap between the phone side and the screen. Though is does not matter much, but thin bezels means smaller phone width, which makes it easy to hold.- The finger print scanner is a snap. It fast and has very less lag when we unlock the phone.- A Huge 4060mah battery is worth a mention. Gives a 1 1/2 day backup, with heavy calls, whatsapp, browsing on 3G, with some photo clicks.- The processor is snapdragon 650. In desi terms it is very fast can take any app that you throw on it. I tested opting 20 apps, and switching between them was fast. (RAM size does matter)- Adding a 3GB RAM to the processor, makes it unbeatable and best in its category- The daylight camera pics are great.- This point does not matter much, but this phone is MADE IN INDIA. :)CONS:- The phone heats up when used for long time ( continuous use for an hour or so). The time to heat reduces as you start up with the games. This is common these days in all the phones (Was using Nexus 5, and it also had the same problem), but Mi has done good job in keeping the heat at a level where the phone is usable. Earlier phones (Mi Redmi 1s) became hot as hell when you used it for long times.- The night photo is not the best, and has kind of blur effect. But I don't complain as the phones in higher price band as well face the same issue. Additionally, we cannot expect the Camera performance same as that of expensive phones for this price.- No Earphones. In India we are used to getting earphones free with the mobiles, but Note 3 does not have one. I guess they are trying to reduce cost by not including one in the box.- MIUI (Software UI that phone comes by default) takes a lot of RAM. Though it is good in looks and usage, but has a high memory consumption. Tts better to opt for 3GB model then the 2GB one.VERDICT:My one line answer GO FOR IT.No company gives you a metal body, with Huge 5.5 Full HD screen, Humongous 4050mah battery, fingerprint scanner and 3GB RAM in this price. Fares with day to day heavy use and providing a huge battery, they have tapped people who always crib the smartphone low batteries.(I was one of them :))[...]

Dream device comes with an affordable price tag!! ;)
By Divakshon Mar 14, 2016 12:00:00 AM
Xiaomi is just one and half year old brand for India and it took only one year to beat all other old and big brands just because of their business model, price, quality, and MIUI. The service of Xiaomi in India is not that much good as all other big brands but still they are doing their level best to give the best, at least, they have exclusive service centers in India. I have bought all Xiaomi India products and none of them required to visit a service center to date. The first device they launched in India was the MI3 and I got it in the first sale and it still works like the new device. The Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon) is the latest Note device they have in the International market right now, as they have already launched Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 2 Prime and the Redmi Note 3 in outside India market but they all have the MediaTek processor and they have been prohibited from sale these MediaTek phones in India due to some patent issues, so they launched the Redmi Note Prime with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 410 (which is not outdated yet but also not for the power user) especially for the Indians and Made in India and most users liked it but some power users didn't like this effort, Xiaomi heard their voice too and now we have Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon variant especially for the Indians and Made in India, powerful than all its MediaTek variants with starting price tag of Rs 9999 only for 2GB/16GB and 11999 for the 3GB/32GB model.----------------------------UPDATE(20-07-2016)----------------------------Redmi Note 3 vs Le2 :Battery: Redmi Note 3 wins here, Redmi note 3 is the monster if we talk about the battery, it very hard for a phone to beat Redmi Note 3 in the battery department.Camera: In the camera department Redmi Note 3 wins, it has got a better camera and produces better photos than the Le 2.Processor: Le 2 has got Snapdragon 652 processor and Redmi Note 3 has got Snapdragon 650, GPU is same on both but Le 2 has got 2 additional ARM Cortex A72 cores which make Le 2 more powerful.OS: Redmi Note 3 has MIUI which is one of most customizable Android based OS, with lots of performance optimization too.Storage: Redmi Note 3 has got Hybrid sim/micro sd slot, you can use MircoSD to expand the memory but Le 2 has 32 onboard storage which can't be increased.Audio: No 3.5mm headphone jack in Le 2, you get USB Type-C port for it, USB Type C is the future but again, for now, 3.5mm and Micro USB is a good as it is available easily everywhere.Build Quality: In build quality, I feel Le 2 is the little bit better than Redmi Note 3.Design: Both phones have cool design but Redmi Note 3 has got more curved edges which is good.Accessories: Le 2 has got really very good charger and the cable, Mi chargers and cables are not good.-> I'm attaching pictures of both devices.----------------------------UPDATE(30-06-2016)----------------------------Redmi Note 3 is now available on all e-commerce sites in India, MIUI 8 is announced, Redmi Note 3 will be updated with MIUI 8, MIUI 8 has some amazing feature like scrolling screenshots, dual apps, second space, Quick Ball etc.----------------------------------------------------------New features you will get next MIUI 8 Update----------------------------------------------------------* Dual Apps: With dual apps, there can be run two instances of any app, for example, we can run two WhatsApp, two Facebook with different accounts.* Second Space: With second space there can be two instances of smartphones on a single Mi phone.* Scrolling Screenshots: With scrolling screenshots, you can take multi-screen scrolling screenshots and editing them further, damn useful for sharing long articles in just one shot.* Quick Ball: With quick ball one handed operations becomes handier, you can access commonly used actions based on your preference with just your swiping your thumb.* T9 Dialer with Hindi + Caller ID: T9 Dialer with Hindi search improves the productivity and saves time in searching contacts while on MIUI 8 no longer need of a caller ID app as MIUI 8 has a very powerful caller ID app which would automatically detect the caller for you and also the SMS senders.* New SMS App: Improved SMS app with recharge service Xiaomi's shake hands with Mobikwik brings direct recharge service from SMS. When you get SMS from telecom or DTH service provider informing of a low balance just from the SMS app you can recharge with the "Recharge Now" button. In MIUI 8 the Inbox will look less cluttered and pleasing to the eyes, the MIUI 8 will automatically detect the sender of the message and names the sender and adds icon too. like AZ-Amazon will be now Amazon with Amazon's Logo.* And Much more like new Photo Gallery, Calculator, Improved security etc.----------------------------UPDATE(06-04-2016)----------------------------Xiaomi playing a trick here to sell 16GB variant, there was no 32GB variant in last sales but it was available in today's sale also in dark gray variant again it won't be there in next sale.----------------------------UPDATE(31-03-2016)----------------------------For now data(3G/2G) doesn't work on BSNL and MTNL sims with this device, there is not even E/H sign, I have also visited the service center and they said, there are many complaints regarding it and the developer team figuring out the issue and will provide the solution via OTA(Over the Air update) soon but how much time it will take to fix this issue nobody knows. There was an update MIUI 7.2.2 which has new feature app lock using fingerprint but this no data on BSNL and MTNL issue not fixed yet.------------------------UPDATE(15-03-2016)------------------------I bought two of these devices, both 16GB variant but one is Dark Grey color and another one is Gold color the weird thing I found between these two is, Dark Grey I got was labeled as Made in India with big red sticker on the box but Gold labeled as Made in China in very small fonts on the bottom sticker of the box. I'm attaching pictures of both for better understanding.-------PROS:-------1. MADE IN INDIA (Check the image)2. MIUI, the MI user interface one of the most customizable, powerful, features packed android user interface. You get almost everything a smartphone user needs without the help of any third-party apps.3. Very simple and sleek design, Overall good build quality, fully metal made, available in many colors and only ~72.4% screen-to-body ratio. (added pictures)4. Radio and IR blaster and USB OTG support.5. Fast and accurate fingerprint scanner.6. Stunning 13.97cm (5.5") Full HD IPS display. (Bigger the display more the productivity.)7. Fast 2GB and 3GB Dual Channel RAM with fast 16GB/32GB Flash memory.8. Redmi Note 3 has a Qualcomm's Snapdragon 650 64 bit CPU with two A72 cores and four A53 cores to carry out intensive tasks at once while completing simpler tasks in the background to save on battery life.9. Adreno 510 graphics processor supports DirectX, OpenCL, FlexRender and other PC gaming technologies for a richer gaming support and experience.10. The Menu, Home, and Back keys are white backlit keys. (Check the image)11. 4G, Dual sim and supports all bands in India.12. The excellent output from the 3.5mm jack, all you need is a good pair of earphone. I tested it with XB70AP.13. Big 4050 mAh high-capacity battery coupled with power efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor and the battery saving features of MIUI makes it one of the most longer battery life smartphone.14. 16MP rear camera | 5MP front camera are not the best camera but it performs better than many phones and best at this price tag.15. Bundled with good quality 2 amp charger.--------CONS:--------1. Does NOT have Corning Gorilla/Dragontail or any kind of glass protection(can be solved using a tempered glass).2. Hybrid slot for the Micro SD and 2nd sim card.3. No NFC, No USB type-C.4. No Quick Charge 2.0(It has old previous generation fast charging).5. Nonremovable battery.6. The speaker is placed on the back side and the output from the speaker in all Xiaomi phones is average or below average in this case this phone won't be audible in the noisy environment and from the another room.7. Very bad bootloader unlocking process, you have to wait at least 10 days to get it unlocked.8. Limited availability, even after it is available on all sites.9. MIUI is the heavily customized android, and because of it takes ages to update their base, right now it MIUI 7.1 comes with the base of Android Lolipop and there will be a long wait for the Android Marshmallows.---------------VERDICT:---------------Overall this phone is the beast I must say at this price tag, It clearly beats all other phones in same mid-budget segment. Redmi Note 3 has everything a flagship device can have today. You can not demand more in this mid-budget segment. Everyone who is looking a smartphone under 15k, Go for it.I am providing some pictures of the product for better understanding as "A picture can speak a thousand words".Thanks for reading my review, I hope it provided all the information for a wise and well-informed purchase decision. If you have any query or confused about buying this item then feel free to comment here or email me for a quicker response.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PHONE. THIS IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY WE PAY.
By Seetha Krishnaswamyon Aug 30, 2016 12:00:00 AM
I stand corrected regarding my previous view on this phone. I bought this phone on 27th July 2016. One week back, I noticed a bend in the screen, which is quite noticeable. I have not dropped the phone or mishandled it or even charged it while operating. I do not play games either. To my utter disappointment, when approached the Xiaomi service center, they bluntly refused to service it stating that the bend does not come under warranty. I suspect, the metal casing should be of inferior quality which cannot bear the heat of the mobile (I use it for reading downloaded books).
