I'm giving this product a one star because negative ratings are not possible on Amazon. This thing barely worked for 6 months before it conked and now I've absolutely lost all my data including somethings really important to me personally. The only blessing was that I'd put my photos elsewhere.I don't know if it is the size of the hard disk (2TB) because I do have a 1TB WD that I'm very happy with or the fact that I bought it online instead of a store (Maybe I'm just being old fashioned) but I do know that I will never buy a hard disk on amazon again. And I will never buy a WD hard disk again

It's been 10 days since i got this, working very well with my Mac Pro (had to re format it for Mac as it comes NTFS formatted)... so far so good, no complaints.Delivery by amazon is very good and one of the reasons I prefer to shop with them, hopefully standards remain high in future

I have purchased WD My Book Essential 3.5 inch 1 TB External Hard Disk (Black). My AC adapted stopped working withing a month so I raised a complain for replacement under warranty.
The Western Digital customer care was always busy and I have to wait on hold for couple of hours which is ridiculous & no Western Digital support agent was providing any confirm information. Each time They are saying me to wait till this week as my adapter is not available. For two months they gave me the same reason. When I tried to launch complaint via email provided on Western Digital web site, I received reply as "Thank you for contacting Western Digital". At the end I purchased a china made adapter and made a promise to myself not to buy any WD product again. They will just sell their product and wash off their hand.
This irresponsible working of Western Digital as well as RT enterprise had caused me intense inconvenience so please don't buy any WD product or else you will be facing the problem if the device malfunctions. Just google "western digital consumer complaints" and you will know the horrible experience people have faced who bought WD products.

i received WD My Book desktop storage 3 TB External Hard Disk ..then i given complain they took back my hard disk after 4 days they sent again same model which i returned back..till now i did'd get which hdd i have order.if we r buying from shop we will get as soon as we paid amount and the same model which we needed..
1. i got some other model hdd which i don't like to use
2.i waited for 8 days after paid amount..
3.again again they did same mistake...they r not making customer feel happy..

First up this is my first purchase with flipkart and i gotta admit the delivery system is fantastic
i was supposed to get the drive on 14th but i got it on 9th wen i had ordered it on 5th. I took the COD option and it was good enough. Packaging is excellent and was filled wid bubble wraps :P
Now as for the drive :
Since i needed a 2tb drive i had two choices out of internal vs external.I went with external as it was nearly same as the internal one and i can take the drive to my frnz's home if needed.
Now in external i had 2 choices,
1.Seagate freeagent goflex desk 2tb
2.wd mmy book essential 2tb Which i bought
The main reason i went with WD is that it runs incredibly cool. Before making my purchase i read on various famous tech review sites like CNET or AnandTech that the seagate freeagent runs hot as it has almost ZERO space for air to flow and has nearly no ventilation. So as expected the seagate runs very hot and during heavy use (like the first day when u get an empty hdd and if u want to fill it) the drive becomes corrupt due to heat.and i assume no one buys a 2000gb drive unless one plans to do heavy use
Thats why i love the WD. i have been using the drive and even when moving 200 gb of data at one stretch in 3 hrs it never gets alarmingly hot .. by just keeping the room fan switched on i get a temp of 42-48 'C which is very good for a drive
ADVANTAGES of seagate
The drive had a faster read/write speed as it uses a 7200 rpm drive where as WD uses a ~6000 rpm drive (and thus runs cooler)
But accor to me a slower speed WD is better than havong the risk of precious data being wiped off.
I hope i helped a buy make the correct decision :)

Decent hard drive..
Receiving 18-20 MB/s on USB 2.0
Still not checked on USB 3.0..but it's 10 times faster.
However, I would rate this product as excellent..
PROS:
Superb glossy finish, small, compact, decent performance (USB 2.0)
AWESOME on USB 3.0
CONS:
Little bit heavy, nothing else.

I purchased this trusting the WD brand name. Huge mistake!!!
The drive is much slower than what is advertised and for some reason the USB 3.0 port has some or the other issue.
Unlike the Buffalo drive that I used before, this was very very fragile. I toppled my drive on my table (it did not fall in the floor) while using it and that was all that was needed to kill the drive. My hard earned money went down the drain and more importantly, I lost all my precious data.
My strongest advice to all the prospective buyers, stay away from this product. It is a slow and fragile piece of machine which cannot be trusted to store your precious data.
