Very Good!

By Kashish9on
Its a really good NAS drive. Backs up all your data, keeps it safe and since its network attached, you can access the data that you want anywhere you want, from any device! Much better than a regular external HDD. Since its a WD product, reliability is a given.

Excellent storage device

By Ravion
Just to warn you - this does not come with any USB connectivity, so if you dont have a router with wifi and multiple ethernet ports at your house, its a complete waste. But, once you hook it into your router, its very easy to setup - just open up the webpage, configure the password, and its ready to use. It can act as a central storage device for all devices in your house - I have multiple computers and laptops, ipads and smartphones all accessing photos, movies etc. over wifi without plugging anything in. You can also install a torrent client, but it takes a bit of effort, and not recommended for beginners. Auto-backup seems to have some quirks - WD still have to fix some bugs. The WD mycloud and photo apps work well on both IOS and Android. As do a lot of other geeky apps like FTP/Samba/NFS clients. Best part is how seamlessly it connects to the WD-TV live box I have at home, and presents all the media sorted by date, name, folder, access etc. You do need a dual or 3 antenna 300 Mbps WiFi router with Gigabit ethernet ports to get good transfer speeds - otherwise it may take you upto 10-15 minutes to transfer a GB of data.

Nice Product

By Manasvion
I am writing this review after using it for almost a year, This is a really cool storage solution, WD Cloud make it really hip to use. It has been continuously running since a year, and no issue at all, Even in Indian Summers.

Good but I wish it was faster

By AJon
if it had faster read and write speeds I would give it 5 stars, for now with around 100mbps im giving it four

Excellant Product

By Ravion
I wanted a reliable storage that works across devices on my home office over wired network. This product gelled well in my environment and allowed all the devices and servers to access data. The speed is pretty food and I like the app for windows phone and iPad to access data.

Horrible Device.

By Manish Patilon
Got It Delivered a week ago or so, First off, - The Transfer Speed Is Terribly slow, connecting the ethernet cable to the modem gives me 10 mbps of file transfer doing the same connected directly to the Desktop gives me 30 mbps(WD has totally made sure that only people who are heavily relying on NAS should purchase this particular product and not those who are looking for an EXTERNAL HDD advantage on a NAS device) - the latest smartware setup is horrible, it installs but doesn't at all show you any launch icon anywhere in the computer(not even at the installed path), I DON'T HAVE ANY OPTION TO CONFIGURE THE NAS AT ALL FOR BACKING UP STUFF AT MY DESKTOP but a web interface with a static IP address where you can do nothing much but do some settings and create profiles.(WD has hundreds of complaints on this issue since years but yet they fail to repair the bug) - whilst copying or during any sort of data transfer you cannot perform any kind of task on the disk(WD badly hates multitasking), you cannot watch a movie, you cannot copy/paste another file/data, you cannot delete any data, if you try to perform any activity, the dude gets frozen and the data transfer becomes slower than a new born snail. despite of many bad reviews on the internet about WD NAS, i bought this anyway and now this is giving me the bad time of my life, such regret, i'l never purchase another WD product. I Rather stick to Seagate Products, they have always been reliable and worth every penny of mine.

Defiitely worth it

By Raghavan Subramaniyanon
I have a home network and the WD My Book Live seemed the ideal choice from a price - performance point. I initially wanted to buy the 1TB box since the 2TB box was out of stock. But the wait was worth it. You get double the capacity for a modest increase in price. Performance looks good. On large file copies, the speed maxed out at 100 Mbps since that is the LAN speed supported by my router. Runs quite and I couldn't feel it heat up; just a bit warm after copying several 10s of GBs. I was surprised the box does not have a power off or shutdown button. You can shutdown through a web interface, but need to pull out the power cord or else it boots up automatically in a power cycle (for some this may be a feature). Besides storing all my photos, movies and songs, I use it for backing up my and my wife's data from our respective laptops on a regular basis.

Awful product. DO NOT BUY!

By Vaibhav Shahon
Stopped working after some months. Have lost ALL MY DATA. DO NOT BUY! WD support can just replace the product. They give no support in recovering data or helping you fix the product. They will just replace the product and you can lose all your data. WD doesn't care. DO NOT BUY!

Great media library for your Smart TV

By Ninad Gupteon
I use this Network Hard disk as a media server at home. Using Ethernet, I am sharing this media with 2 Internet TV - LG and Sony Bravia and am able to play any of my movies simultaneously on both the TV in seconds. I have also installed an app on my IPad to access this media library. It will also play embedded subtitles in some video formats, depending on the compatibility with the TV. Note that this device cannot do media transcoding, which is not a big issue actually as it is not feasible on entry level processors. The inbuilt Twonky media server is stable, but it is incapable of displaying the poster image of the videos while browsing the library, which I have seen with other media software like Serviio. I have installed addon software for adding features like Torrent client. This device will keep downloading from P2P networks without having to keep the PC on. It has a good web interface, and for the techies, you can also enable SSH using a simple tweak and do your own custom app installs. There is sufficient documentation about these addons on the Internet. When the device is not in use, the Hard disk nicely spins down to a stop, thus saving power and extending the life of the hard disk. It certainly can do backups of your PC, which is fairly common. The cloud storage is also a useful feature, so you can have quick access to your files remotely. This is a device I bought after doing considerable research. With this device, I have transferred all my DVD collection into this single unit, and got rid of the excess baggage. Want to download videos and TV shows off Youtube for repeated playing? This one has the answer. My 5 year old kid can play cartoons of her choice just as easily. If you are looking at modernising the way you consume media, this device is a must have. This is the future of entertainment storage.

Excellent External HDD and NAS

By Mandar Behereon
I have been using this WD My Book Live 2 TB Network Hard disk for over a month now and I have been very happy with the purchase. This HDD doubles up as your NAS which could be accessed over internet if you have "always on" internet connection. Setting up the device is pretty simple. WD has provided the required setup tools easily accessible from their website and the community support also looked fine. It was easy to find out how to enable SSH for this ubuntu box and set up some cron jobs. This NAS box is DLNA compatible and now I can stream all my music from this box to my mobile devices which are DLNA compatible. A Good buy, if you are looking for network drive to backup your contents and also as NAS to stream media.

WD harddisks - shell life only for 3 years

By Amazon Customeron
I am not happy with WD external hard disks.Good: Delivery is prompt, Service within Limited warranty is good.Poor: With all my 6 hard disks usage I found that WD hard-disks only work fine within the limited warranty period. There is no longer life then it.... 3 years. If a disk gets failed before 3 years, WD does replace that but the new one will also work for the 3 years. After 3 years every time it starts giving an instant problem, then one may end up either by discarding it fully or may be use it as an mobile device and if any important data is saved then better to keep backup copy elsewhere since you never know whether and how long the disk data is available and disk is functional. So overall my personal experience with WD harddisks - shell life only for 3 years.

Died after 1 year

By Diego P.on
It lasted 1 year. After that there were constant errors and endless waits to write/read. A chkdsk surface scan showed bad sectors everywhere. The hard disk died and my data with it.

when I contacted Amazon guys their amazing reply was bad luck buddy we are helpless

By Umesh D.on
I bought this product on festive sales during independence day 2016. The product performance seems ok, I was able to store some 200 GB Data, but I am not sure if it is locked whether it is covered under warranty. One should check this before buying, most of the guys make money by locking the data. Secondly I was charged 6600 less 500 bucks cash back during the festive season. However I found the product price was listed as 5750 after the festive sale concluded. I felt that I was being taken for a royal ride.....when I contacted Amazon guys their amazing reply was bad luck buddy we are helpless ! So guys beware unless you are sure that you are getting a good deal during festive season don't buy if you are unsure.

Best value for money !

By Amit Ron
After using this Hard disc for 3 years , I can say this product is really worth buying.1.Data transfer is very fast.2.No issues have been observed even after 2 years.3.I use this daily as my computer have very low storage. So this harddisc is always connected to my computer.4. Its sleek and solid design makes it attractive and easy to carry. This product can be bought , you will not regret it.Tips - Keep this product in your cart for 1 week and you will see a price drop of around 500 Rupees. It worked for me ??

Very good portable hard drive

By Siddhartha_Bon
Very good portable hard drive, handy and easy to use. I was bit tentative while ordering as I have never used WD product before. But now, after using it for more than a year, I can say that WD is one of the best brand to trust if you are looking to buy an external hard drive. It responds very quickly while plugging. Good data transfer speed. Highly recommended.
