Third Grade product .Reflects HP's sick and biased mentality towards developing nations like India
By Rajesh Singhon
HP laptops introduced in India are usually third grade compared to models introduced in US. What was the point of introducing a leapmotion laptop here. It would have been a lot better if 17 inch Full HD laptop with Blueray drive and nvidia 750M with GDDR5 was introduced here. Nobody needs a touchscreen or leapmotion for any programming use .The 4GB DDR3 graphics is a marketing gimmick to fool customers who are not technically uptodate. A 2GB GDDR5 nvidia 750m as offered in 70k laptop like lenovo y510P is much better(1.8 times faster) you don't need a 4GB DDR3 VRAm when you have 8GB DD3 RAm. It doesn't add any performance improvement.Morever the loser HP has not even put an optical drive in 15.6 inch laptops.i am using an HP pavilion for last 5 yrs and I know how HP intentionally messes its high range laptops with poor choice of graphics card so that the customer will find it obsolete within a year when nvidia launches a higher performance graphic card.
It would have been lot better if flipkart imported and sold the better configuration 17inch laptops which are released for US customers. The only thing that indian models have different is the heatsink.
(1)The problem with the keyboard is still there. It wobbles !!
(2)Unlike what others have commented, i faced no problems in dual booting with linux. Although the nvidia optimus feature support for linux is pathetic.
(3) The camera is still the same stuff which i have in my 2007 HP pavilion dv6000.Although the UK edition of leapmotion has FULL HD camera. Shows bias of HP.
(4) A bluray drive in place of useless leapmotion would have been better !!.
The BIG PLUS of this laptop : It has an empty bay for 1 TB !!
Latest Update: The motherboard died with exact 30 days remaining for the warranty !! And thanks to INEFFICEINT clumsy girls at HP customer-care I could NOT claim an initial extra 2 years warranty offer at discounted price. This laptop cannot be recovered by recovery disks. It will fail
Final Update: The mother board and processor blew up with capslock blinking once again and now I am without laptop and no warranty. And mind you, i never played games on it nor have even installed one. This laptop is a pure failure. Now i am planning to file a case . PLEASE NEVER BUY THIS LAPTOP OR ANY HP ENVY 17 series. Google and you will find a known issue of failure and capslock blinking when you try to recover with recovery disks.

This laptop is riddled with jokes--
1) GPU with 4 GB video memory. Lol, i thought manufacturers have stopped pulling this gag on hapless customers but i guess the show goes on. A GPU with such low power can barely utilize more than 1 GB video memory. HP should have just given 16GB video memory and made noobs wet their pants, lol...
2) The GPU uses DDR3 RAM, yup, that's the kind of memory you find on Rs3,000 Graphic cards. Its old, like 5 year old tech, has extremely low bandwidth and simply cannot utilize more the 1 GB video memory effectively.
3) The Leap Motion trick. lol, seriously i have never ever heard of this tech till now(and now i did some research), because this is strictly niche tech which will be pushed by small time developers financed by HP. How many Motion leap devices are there? Do you think EA,Ubisoft,Microsoft,Sony etc will spend millions of $$ on R&D for Games supporting Leap Motion? They are already downplaying PC market for consoles due to piracy, and here HP expects the public to count on mega corporations to make game supporting Leap Motion. JOKE OF THE YEAR!!!!
4) Check video review of Motion Leap in action, on Youtube or smthing. You will prolly use this feature for like 5-10 minutes to show off in front of your friends. And don't expect any AAA games. At the most some arcade games like the ones you find on Google Play Store.
5) Aluminium+ Glass combination for the body. Have fun playing games with internal temps shooting above 90 degrees !!
There should be a law stating that no manufacturers should be allowed to ship a dedicated GPU on laptops without a good thermal control solution, like a good CPU and GPU cooler. Cant this HP simply copy the cooling design of MSI GS-70 or at least that Razer Blade????. Those are extremely thin laptops with decent cooling mechanism. They are not great, but still miles better than what HP,Dell,Sony,Lenovo provide in their performance laptops.
6) That price.....SMH
Dont buy just because the 4GB graphics seems exciting.

Sure it's a 750m with 4 GB graphics. But one thing thats not mentioned here that the card has ddr3 ram. Which means that it's not a whole lot fast. Expect faster performance than a 650m but thats about it.
Higher memory doesnt count for much if it's speed cant keep up with the task of delivering information across components on time. That's exactly the problem you'll face with this one. In fact in gaming >2 GB doesnt really matter. Higher Vram is mostly important if you're working with softwares like 3DS Max where you need the higher ram to cache all the polys and the textures.
Till date hardly any game has made use of a full 1-1.5 GB of vram. In fact you'll never find a title that reccomends more than 2 GB vram because it's not required.
The problem with this Graphics Card is that the ddr3 ram in it causes a severe bottleneck, which will cause lower than expected performance results.
So my advice is that if you want a decent gaming laptop, but dont expect too much from it, and feel that touch and leapmotion is something you'd like to try out get this one.
However if you expect to game with most every title in FullHD with settings cranked up quite a bit, look somewhere else.
Remember gddr3 = 1/2 the performance of gddr5(pretty much a standard that you want to find in a gaming level graphics card). This means that this 4GB variant will perform only about 1/2 or maybe a little more than half the performance of a gddr5 750m.
Good but some drawbackd
By Rajkumar Ton
the device Envy 17-j102tx is no doubt a fascinating one but I find some drawbacks.
The first and most important one is its battery. It provides only upto 3 hrs with only 6 cells where dell precision m6800 has 9 cells. Clock speed is 2.2 where the later starts with 2.7. i7 variant is 4702 while m6800 has 4800m. m6800 has SSD integrated in HDD which is missing in this envy.
Optical drive should be of Blu ray RW with dual layer.
Of course it has some other good features like finger print locking system which m6800 does not have.
All other festures are a welcoming ones such as device design, style, finishing n Beats audio system etc.
If hp could look into the drawbacks and improve upto the mark, no doubt it will sure completely defeat the inspiron m6800.
Dear HP... give a thought on it and reduce the cost to as less as possible.. You are the ultimate winner... I like you dear...!

Nice configuration, but technology are mixed up in this laptop as OLD and NEW. need wait for the leap technology to stabilish only their games works if you install any on your own that may not work well, then you would be left with regret about the laptop
Good but PRICE !!!....
By Sahil Gagvanion
it is a good laptop with good processors and RAM which ultimately lead to excellent perfomance and speed but the problem rises when it comes up for toughness.. you need to be very careful while handling it as it has a very delicate screen and body and get damaged by minor hits ... the battery is good ..... overall i woul rate it 7 on 10 as it has got a very high price .. taking the price in consideration , this is not so good. This laptop could have been a super hit in the market if it would be a bit cheaper in price like around 60K as it has Intel i7 in it.. anyways , it is not a bad try by HP ! i would suggest to check out some other laptops before buying this !
