Perfect

working nicely

Ok type lens...

By Sondeepon
Good for low light, but depth of field is too short. So you will miss the desired focus more often. Chromatic aberration seen when light source in the front. Focus ring is too hard to rotate. Aperture can be adjusted by aperture ring only. I have f1.8 also and found it better than f1.4

Pretty good lens, but benefits over F1.8D and G are minimal. Get the 50mm F1.8G

So I use it on my D5100 and AF doesn't work, I knew that, but when the lens is wide open, it gives a lot of blue and green fringes around high contrast white areas. That is not the case with D5300 though, dunno why. But that's nothing that I can't fix in post. The lens is very sharp, a bit sharper than 35mm f1.8G DX when that's wide open. I went to DXOMark to verify that and that is actually the case. The 50mm f1.4G is not as sharp as this though. The sharpest one is 50mm f1.8G and the 50mm f1.4D is just as sharp as that.As this is an old lens, it does not have an inbuilt focusing motor. So the AF won't work on D3xxx, D5xxx series. So 50mm f1.4 G is what you should go after if you need AF, but that's INR 10k more expensive. I take my photos nice and slow, one at a time, so having no AF is not a big issue for me.However, this lens does not work with Nikon D3400 in any mode other than manual. So if you aren't good with manual controls, don't get this lens. If you have this lens, but want a new cheap camera, skip the D3400 and get D3300 instead. I personally use Aperture Priority mode as the rangefinder is only available in aperture priority mode and that makes focusing a bit more difficult in all the other modes. If you just need a fast and sharp lens for cheap, it's a f1.4, however f2.2 and f2.8 work best at night, go for this one.I love it.But personally, after testing this, I'd recommend the 50mm F1.8G. There's not much difference in bokeh and not a lot of advantage to shutter speed in low light, also, no AF in the 50mm f1.4D.If you are on a very tight budget, get the 50mm F1.8D, if not then F1.8G. Skip the F1.4 lenses and straight away get the F1.2 if you really want that low DoF, but that's not very sharp. Conclusion: Get the 50mm F1.8G if you want a 50mm prime.

Superb Lens

I am sure anyone who is contemplating buying this lens would have weighed the option of buying between this or the 1.8 D/G lens. First of all, if you already have a 1.8 version, I would recommend selling this and then buying a 1.4 version, since you won't be using both. I had a 1.8D lens and i gave it away. When it comes to buying this lens the most important reason I bought it was for the bokeh, at 1.4 the speed is excellent and much faster in terms of focusing even when compared to most expensive zoom lens. The bokeh is better than a 1.8 version. So if you are serious about bokeh go for this lens. Else 1.8 version would just be fine. Now if you are even more serious in terms of what you know what you would be using this lens for, then going for a 1.4G version, if extra price is not too much of a crunch. As usual needless to say I was extremely satisfied with flipkart's delivery.

Awesome lens (1.4 and autofocus) + great for videos

By Vignesh pandianon
Nikkor f1.4 50mm is a really good portrait prime lens and even more better for making videos. This is AF lens, so needs a motor in the body for autofocus. If you have an older body and need autofocus, go buy the AF-S piece which is almost 80% more in price. This AF without SWM is as fast as the AF-S model. So it's a better buy if you have a body with motor. Less moving parts for AF in lens means lesser issues in lifetime. Again 85-105mm is best for portraits, but 50mm is good inside a studio and for closer crops. Dxomark places this with a good rating for my Nikon FX camera.

Good, Fast lens

About Flipcart experience: Even thought it was mentioned that the lens may take 7-9 working days, it was delivered in 3 days, in Bangalore. Packaging was good and secure, the delivery man was courteous and pleasant. No hassles during any stage of the purchase. About the lens: It is an excellent lens at this price. I bought it for my Nikon D90 body. To view sample images shot with this lens and other info, see my blog post: wander-mind.blogspot.com/2011/10/lens-review-nikkor-50mm-f14d-on-nikon.html

Very nice product go for it

For the serious photographer

By Affan A Kadaron
This lens is made specifically for portraits and is not a general lens. So, if you're looking for a lens that meets your everyday purpose this is not for you. Back to the lens- its simply excellent. At 1.4, it performs well under low light conditions. The bokeh is amazing. It suits well for parties, weddings or any other people event where you are not going to be too far away from the subject. If you have a full frame camera you can get closer to the subject without getting the image cropped. For the purpose this lens was designed for, its simply excellent. PS> If you're really into portraits and want to get real up close with your subject, opt for the 35mm or 24mm.
