Even without viewing from 4K sources, there is a very noticeable leap in image clarity due to the frankly excellent up-scaling of the image from standard HD sources this LG TV is capable of.Suddenly being able to see detail not previously perceivable sometimes leads to quite an eye, brain (and occasionally stomach) jolt, and it is possible some may prefer not to get used to it. Although the settings do allow you to tone down the image to suit your needs, it seems perverse to bother going for 4K only to immediately neuter it in that way. But you can do that if you like, and if you don’t find the out of the box settings give you enough eye-bang for your buck, you can turn on the HDR effect, whack it up to ‘strong’ and make watching even the most mundane of TV shows produce orgasms for your eyes, at least until the novelty inevitably wears off as you become accustomed to it and start to apply this new tech how it serves you best.Most Indian broadcast TV, being un-inspiringly directed and lit to disguise low budgets won’t get the best out of this tasty piece of kit, but the cutting edge is as it always was, in the movies and wildlife/nature programs. If you’re a nerd about these sort of things (as I most certainly am) re-watching old favorites like Blade Runner or Prometheus and films like Pirates of the Caribbean or Transformers certainly provides adequate test material for the eye confounding moments 4K technology provides.Straight out of the box, once you have followed the user friendly steps to link up this set to your Wi-Fi you are ready to enter a new dawn…well, not quite a new dawn, this TV definitely represents significant evolution of your home entertainment experience rather than a revolution. What you watch doesn’t necessarily get better just because a TV is pointing a massively increased number of pixels towards your eyes.That mild caveat aside, this Ultra HD HDR TV from LG is a sophisticated luxurious home viewing upgrade item and the capacity to hook up to your Netflix, Amazon, BBC iPlayer or other TV app without having to switch source to your Wi-Fi Blu-Ray player, games console or Chromecast or Firestick is certainly pretty sweet. You just press the home button on the remote and the options for viewing sources smoothly appear in front of whatever you are currently watching. As with other smart TVs, the internet browser opens up what you are able to do with your TV, and downloading new apps is as easy as it is on any other platform these days.Sound wise, this set offers a pretty robust virtual surround sound integrated into its body. But as with most slim TVs, even with options to emphasis bass or treble, there simply isn’t the physical space to fit speakers that create an all-encompassing sound to fully complement the advance in image clarity. Despite this, what reaches your ears from the native sound system is vastly superior to most slim TVs so if you don’t currently use a meaty soundbar/sub-woofer or surround sound set up, your ears may find this LG TV as much of a revelation to your ears as your eyes.
