Had quite an interesting time with this router...it performed perfectly fine for the first 30 days and then the trouble began...my internet would suddenly get disconnected and when i tried to access the router's homepage i would get a message saying "the ip address of the router has changed, blah blah blah..." and the only way to get it to work again was to pull out the routers power plug and plug it back again... after a few days of doing this the router went dead, i could see just one light on the router when there should have been 4 and nothing made it work...i took it to the service center "rashi periperhals" which are probably the worst service centre in India, they updated the firmware and gave it back to me saying the issue was fixed, this after i had told them the firmware was upgraded by myself...anyway so it went dead again after a day so took it to Rashi again and asked them to replace the router to which they refused... escalated this to ASUS support in Mumbai i think and they finally agreed to replace the router...but Rashi still wasn't satisfied with the substandard support and wanted to prove that they are the indeed the worst so they actually asked me to get the original router's box(cardboard) along with the manual etc...who in the right mind would keep the original cardboard box?? i threw it the moment i opened it.... since i did not have the original packaging i was provided the replacement item without the box and other accessories...SO now i have the replacement item and in order for it to work i reboot it once everyday ...it is a hassle but at least it is working... in terms of performance it is allright i get the signal from the 2.4 Ghz past 2 solid walls and a bandwidth of 300 mbps from the 5 Ghz signal.

Well, I buy a lot from Flipkart but this one I didn't. But seeing some of the top reviews which are negative made me write this review. I'm a serious technology enthusiast and I've been using routers for more than 14 years now. I've used a variety of routers over the years and this one is amazing. I've been using this router for about 3 years 2 months now and its the best. Let me first tell you about my setup at home - I've four routers. The main router is Asus RT-N56U connected to my internet modem works in both 2.4 and 5G. Cisco E2000 (installed dd-wrt) setup in a Repeater Bridge mode connected to my XBOX, Smart TV and TataSKy. An old famous router Linksys WRT45G setup as AP in the 2nd floor (again in Repeater Bridge mode) and finally Netgear that connects to my home security system that constantly records and uploads security pictures to my Cloud device. Apart from this, I've two desktops connected over LAN, 1 laptop, 4 phones and 1 iPad over wireless. Even when I take out the repeaters.. the signal strength of 2.4G is amazing! the file transfer rate varied from 12MB/s(full strength) to 3.5-4MB/s( for 1 bar signal strength). For 5GHz wireless network delivered better speed only in close range. Files transferred with 16MB/s. However, the signal strength decreased a lot in other rooms - in some places I used to get only 1-2MB/s. However, the router is in the same room as my other 5Ghz devices. Over the years, I had an issue with ASUS RT-N56U only 2 times. 1. When I upgraded to a faulty firmware. Solution: I downgraded to the stable one and waiting for ASUS to fix their Media Server issues. 2. When my ISP had an issue with my IP address One of the user complained that he always gets an error "You've set the wrong dynamic or static IP address for RT-N56U" - I too received this error and it was an issue with ISP. There was an issue only once and updating all the devices with Static IP had resolved this permanently. The best firmware version I would say is 3.0.0.4.374.130 - it has worked flawlessly for me. The AiCloud feature is simply superb, you can just plug-in USB harddive and can access from any internet based phone or computer. Media Server with DLNA, access your media center over 5Ghz! from any device with a DLNA client. Its bad luck for those if this router is not functioning as marketed... but I'm here to say, it works great as advertized for me. Wish others all the best... my suggestion... try different firmwares... one works great.. Keep it!

This transmits two simultaneous wifi SSID one on 2.4Ghz and one on 5Ghz. Hooked up my PS3 using an Ethernet cable. Streamed wirelessly blue ray movie rip (25GB mkv file) without any problems and simultaneously continued using the Internet with no loss of speed. Tried USB with 1.5TB HDD formatted to NTFS. Worked fine. Was able to FTP, windows share and also stream media from this HDD. Four stars because my photon+ did not work, even with custom ROMS.

Asus pro.ises three years warranty but you actually need one they make you run around..this started troubling after a year.I forgot that I had a 3 year warranty with still a few months to go...went to service center.awaiting replacement but product not available in market ..refund is the alternate but that too is still not given after around a month..They are all the same. After.much pushing they went back on their refund promise and gave me a refurbished replacement. Stopped working after a month.

I liked this router a true dual band router with extensive features and range. Its more like advanced router and not for non-tech people. Buy this only if you want to setup some type home network with storage, printer, streaming etc. Don't go for this router if you are looking for a wireless router with basic features. The HDD and pendrives connected in the router gets recognized quickly / works well for majority of use cases. Further exploration is in progress

Very good router but wifi range is not so good I stay in a 1200 sq ft house the wifi won't even reach to other end of my house. Good thing I like about the product is it has two USB ports I have connected 2 2 tb HDD to it and ui is fairly simple to configure HDD . I am able to access the HDD at full speeds in all my devices.

Good fast and stable with latest beta firmware update ... Long range too ... Getting a little old but perfect for ~20mbps networks ... I have a 100mbps network ... Get 100 only on 5ghz ... Go for ac68u or ac66u if you need really fast internet on phones and tablets that support 802.11ac ... Asus routers are the best when running the right firmware ...

Excellent router with several features. The feature list is endless and t looks very nice. It is a dual band router and it performs very well. The range of the 5GHz band is not very good but that is to be expected. Connecting an external hard disk to the router and sharing the content over wifi was very handy as well.
