Review after 1 month of continuous usage of router!! Best router with worst delivery from flipkart

By Ankitha jainon
I was lucky enough to get all the items that was i supposed to get though the box was torn With no bubble wrap!!! I have ordered so many items from flipkart but this delivery was the worst one of all, seriously flipkart is becoming flopkart day by day. Pros: about the router running the latest firmware. 1.Amazing range 2. Quick start up ( it goes online in less than 30 seconds after start up) 3. Great looks 4. Has many features like VPN,FTP server,Print server, Supports 3G dongle( almost any including your android USB tethering) 5.High speed Internet support for HD gaming. 6.best router to be online 24??7 with no disconnection what so ever!! 7.has the excellent capabilities to fully utilize your high speed cable broadband with QOS support!! Cons: 1.Becomes very hot on using XBOX with several clients online lan as well as wireless (so placing the router near the fan or using a cooling pad is recommended) 2. Price is very high Hidden feature: 1. It has an inbuilt micro SD card reader, detectable under samba/file server menu under USB application. (Note. Inserting SD card will require opening the router WHICH WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY) Conclusion: The best router for high data transmission though the price is high it is a highly recommended product and probably the best router in the market.go for it if the seller is WSRETAIL only

Excellent: If you're enthusiast then go for it

This is my 4th router I purchased and my earlier router is WNR2000 v2 which is a NetGear N300 router. Earlier, I used Netgear WGR614 and Belkin N150. I have a NAS (D-Link DNS-323), 1 Playstation, 2 phones, two laptops in a 4 room apartment. My router is located at the central lobby (N300 from Netgear) and in living room I connected DNS-323 and Playstation 3 using a wireless signal extender RPT2000 from Netgear. This provides local 100mbps connectivity between NAS and Playstation 3 which allows me to watch all the movies, serials and other entertainment hosted on the NAS. Works beautifully! I started facing problem when I want to stream it by connecting to base station of the router in my bedroom. Connection between Repeater and Base station (N300) is so poor that I can't stream video effectively which is very upsetting. Hence, I started exploring a high end router. RT-N66U is not for everybody, rather not necessary for everybody. If you're trying to buy a router which need wi-fi connectivity across your house for surfing web, you don't need it. This is not going to make a huge difference in your regular browsing beyond improved coverage area for network. Asus N66U was the choice made and I can say I am very happy with it! If you're just buying this for improved network coverage, you don't need to put 14000 for this router. Any average router from Netgear and wi-fi extender will probably do a better job at half the price you'll pay for this. What this router excels in is - - Freedom to upgrade firmware to Merlin / DD-WRT / Tomato. - Really powerful and supports lot of parallel connections - Very good for media streaming - Quality of signals is maintained almost constantly rather than in bursts If you know what you can do with this router, go for it. Otherwise, it will be similar to buying a sports car and then driving it at 50 kmph on city roads!

This is my first "costly" router and I feel that I have invested in a very good product. My previous modem-cum-router cost me about Rs.2000 and was good for what I required from a router at the time. I like the Asus RT-N66U router for the following attributes: - Excellent range: This is the main reason that I bought this router for. With my old Netgear, I am lucky if I got even weak coverage near my TV (about 15 meters away from the router). But with the RT-N66U, I get 100% signal strength anywhere in my house even with all kitchen equipments running. - User Friendly: You don't need to connect to the router wired to configure it initially. The UI is simple and configurable. I was connected to the Internet in a matter of minutes after unpacking the router. - Upgradable: The router is DD-WRT/Tomato compatible so power users can choose to upgrade the firmware if they want to. Even the router's antennae are easily upgradable, if you wish to increase its already great wireless coverage. - Great Features: The router can act as a VPN server, a Printer server (with a USB Printer), 3G/WiMax Server (with USB 3G/WiMax modem), Samba/FTP server (for USB drive files) and more. I have yet to use any of these features and I am excited because this is the first router that I used that has USB ports. Negative Points: Except for it being a tad costly, I can think of nothing negative about this router. Bottom Line: If you are looking for more than the basic level of network connectivity and have the budget for this router, just go for it.

Great Router for geeks and computer enthusiasts

By Manpreet Singh Dhillonon
"Awesome" is one word to describe the performance of this router. I am not going into tech specs as they are already evident in the product description but really this is the best one can hope for in this price range and even if you spend 2k or 3k more you won't get anything like this. Wireless range is a qulity you would notice first about this, exceptional. Overheating was my main problem with my old Netgear router and believe me N66U really runs cool as compared to all the Dlinks and Netgears I own. Router allows you to enable 3 guest and one normal SSIDs across both frequencies means total of 8 SSIDs with different security settings. I haven't tried the print server but Fle Server and download manager is boon for heavy downloaders. No need to keep you PC running overnight for a big file. Overall this deserve 10 out of 10 but because of lack of support by DD-WRT I will give it 9.5/10. Don't be fooled my tech reviews by US blogs, they tend to be overly professional. Buy with confidence if you want something solid.

Magnificent piece of Machinery

By Harish Shivaramon
This router is about as good as it gets. It's got all the usual stuff a wireless router should have. Dual band, independently configurable. Auto-detection of WAN port type (PPPoE for me). NAT & DHCP. All configurable through a very elegant and intuitive interface. Then there are the premium features; Dual USB port. I've plugged a hard-disk in one, but more about that later. I've got a 3G modem in the other (Tata Photon). The 3G modem works as a backup. If the PPPoE ever goes down, the router auto-dials to 3G and keeps me online. Transparently. The dial-in details can be configured manually, but I simply selected TATA from a dropdown list, and voila. I'm sure I saw Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone and a couple of others in the list. The hard-disk I connected to the USB is a 250GB externally powered hard-disk, originally formatted FAT32. But that is hardly the ideal file-system for this. The router provides a telnet interface to a linux console. I've since reformatted to ext3, on the router itself. The contents of the hard-disk are shared by the router, making it behave like a basic NAS. Supported protocols are SMB/CIFS, FTP and UPnP/DLna. I've used the first two extensively, and it works very well. The piece-de-resistance, of course, would have to be what ASUS calls "Download Master". This is an application which runs off the USB hard-disk, and is essentially a download tool, supporting downloads through HTTP(s)/FTP/Torrent and NZB (whatever that is). This is a completely awesome feature, where you start off downloads and let them run directly on the router overnight, and come morning, the files are all available to you, sitting on a network drive. I have no words. Oh, and did I mention, it's got an excellent range? Three concrete hollow-block walls away, I've still got a reasonable signal. My previous linksys router would just about work beyond one wall.

Only buy this router. Don't ever buy anything else.

Outstanding product. I now own 3 of these - 1 for each house, and every single one of them is as amazing as the other. You never need to reboot them - if something has an issue, and they are asking you to reboot your router - with the Asus N66U, 99% of the time, the problem is not with the router. It has amazing features, I use these few, and they all work flawlessly:- Dual WAN failover (onto USB 3G/4G or backup ethernet line)- File Server- Print Server- Multiple wifi SSIDs with private networks and guest timeouts- VPN server- VPN client (to connect the whole house to another VPN network)- Traffic shapingIf you need a rock solid, bullet proof router, this is the product you should choose.

Good dual band router

By Spalifeon
Good dual band router.Have been using it for the past 3 months without an issue.Much more stable on Merlin Firmware.Pros:- Easy Setup (auto detects your ISP connection type)- Good WiFi coverage even on 40% TX power- Has good forum support on ASUS as well as on smallnetbuilders.- The custom firmware gives the option to run additional plugins/addons such as privacy, ad blocking, dns encryption, open vpn etc.,.- Does not heat up on vertical position (no need to be placed in an air conditioned location, just needs decent ventilation)- Has a internal undocumented SD card slot (have not used it, as it might void warranty)- ASUS UI is good and intuitiveCons:None so far

Good range. Easy setup

By Prabin Pebamon
Delivered 2 days ahead of the delivery date shown. So far no hiccups. Good range. Easy setup. If you are planning to use this with ACT broadband, it might be good to know that ACT does not allow you to access USB drives remotely. At least, it's not working for me. I can access the USB drive fine within the wifi network but not through internet.

Great router for home

By Amol Khisteon
Great home router if you have lot of gadgets to connect: smartphones, laptops, PC, smart TV, wireless Wi-Fi music system. Highly configurable.Note one drawback: 5 GHz throughput is slow at close range.See a good review here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2028227/asus-rt-n66u-router-review-the-best-802-11n-router-for-the-home-or-home-office.html

The Dark Knight Delivers

If you have a 4G connection that you use primarily for streaming HD movies and music or spend more time on the Net than is really healthy, then the Asus 900 is for you. I've had it for about a week and, so far, though it's early days yet, it's delivered without a hitch. In fact, I suspect that it actually boosts the signal for smooth, uninterrupted video streaming/web-surfing.
