Comparison of 3 HDs
By Avik Majumderon
This review talks about 3 harddisks: WD My Passport, WD Elements, Seagate Expansion. Passport is 2 years old, Expansion is 1 year old and I bought the Elements yesterday.
For Elements people complained about heating and vibration. I copied 252GB from Expansion to Elements in one go and I found the heating and vibration to be completely under normal limits. Do not forget this is not a SSD that it will not vibrate. However in Elements the vibration is more felt (than Passport or Expansion) because of its sleek shape. The internal metal hard drive casing is in direct contact with the external plastic body and there is very minimal damping between the two. This will create no problem at all.
While I was copying, my source drive (Passport) was connected to a USB 2 port and the destination drive (Elements) was connected to USB 3 port. I found the transfer speed was a continuous 30MB/sec. [I was copying 252GB in 952 items]
My other experience:
Build quality of Expansion is worst among these 3. Even the internal hard drive is cased within a plastic body which makes this the lightweight among these 3.In build the best is Passport.
I suggest go for WD My Passport.
Check the cord on a USB 3.0 port
By Abhishek Subramaniamon
Check the cord on a working USB 3.0 port as soon as you buy it.
I got one with a defective cord that worked fine on USB 2 but did not work on USB 3
Since I did not have a USB 3 port at the time I could not check it.
Trying to get it exchanged now.
Will review the comment as soon as something is done about it.

Ordered the product on 15th July and received on 17th July, so thanks flipkart for their excellent service.
As it is WD Element, so I have compared it with WD My Passport, and found these differences.
1. The dimension of my WD Element is 111 x 82 x 15 mm whereas dimension of WD My Passport is 111 x 82 x 19 mm, So WD Element is quite slicker than WD My Passport.
2. Weight of WD Element is 130 gm whereas weight of WD My Passport is 194 gm, So WD Element is lighter than WD My Passport.
So in both this case WD Elements wins over WD My Passport.
3. WD Elements comes with only one color that is Black, but WD My Passport comes with 4 different colors (Black, Blue, Red, Silver).
4. WD My Passport has Password protection and hardware encryption facility where as WD Elements doesn't have so.
So WD My Passport wins over WD Elements here.
Now choose the model among this two by your own requirements.
Also in My Passport review section I have found that, some user complained about vibrating issue and heating issue.
But in last few days I have transfer 20-25 GB files at once several times but doesn't found any vibrating issue and not at all any heating problem.
So I am very much satisfied with this product and recommending it to my friends if they are not interested about Password protection and hardware encryption facility.
The only problem what I have found is that the transfer cable is very much short only 15inch(I think).
