I want to dump off quite a bit of my media files, which have been piling up TBs for quite a while. I wanted to store all the pictures 1TB+, Family Videos, Kids, etc., so relatives and guest at home can just view them on any devices. Here are my observation and realizations; If you already have a well connected setup complete with Wi-Fi and most devices being wireless, including your Laptop, etc. this is not an ideal solution. You're better off adding more connected storage and investing in a NAS. The companion iOS app, to be downloaded separate from the App Store, is fugly and slow. Seagate need to invest in some good designers and 'actual' Native iOS Developers. The inability to plug this in directly to a computer is a deterrent if you are NOT going to start this off as a new few recruit into your storage and backup army. If you're starting off with this, I guess it would be ideally good. My guestimate to transfer and fill up the 2TB storage will take about 200+ hours over the Wi-FI (5GHz n-band) (no, I haven't upgraded to the ac band from Apple). And unfortunately, I stopped using laptops with LAN ports since 2009. They have services and it seems they can add more in future, as it is the software (firmware) that controls it but there is no news from Seagate. I hope this can be booted with some other firmware and we can take full power of a stand-alone storage system. So, no you cannot add or have a torrent server on the drive. Well, it comes with the signature sturdy build of Seagate and the not-so-useful multi pluggable power pins, Hey Seagate, why don't you just ship the one specific to the country? I throw away everything and keep just one that can stay firmly in the power socket. Tip: The Indian Pin falls off rather easily - choose South Asian (thick 3 pin) or US (2 think pin). Suggestions for people who already have other form of storage and increasing their capacity - (i) time to move to NAS and/or (ii) add add normal drives that can be plug-in to your router/switch/USB and save money.

This is wonderful device for people who want a personal cloud. The drive transfer rate depends on the modem. The transfer rate over wifi would only be 2 mbps. Do not buy if you needs fast backups. This is a great device for those who understand what a home cloud NAS drive is . Note : The USB port is not for connecting to the computer, it is for adding another external drive to the network.

I've received it in the morning and using it since. Currently, backing up everything onto the drive. Packaging was very well done. The package includes different adapter head for every country so carrying it abroad shouldn't be a problem. It's quite heavy and built solidly. It has a very understated design and seats quite stealthy. Getting it started is extremely easy and shouldn't take more 2 mins. It runs silently and quite fast as I'm getting transfer speeds upto 50 Mbit/s and an average of 45 Mbit/s. I'll gladly recommend it to others and it also comes with a 3 years warranty which is always a plus. Overall, very good NAS drive. Although, the iOS app needs a huge overhaul.
