I purchased this external hard disk on October 2017 and it has been working efficiently since then. The product in itself is great but the packaging was not commensurate to the standards expected from Amazon. The device looks great with the top having a gleaming finish. The length of the cable seemed adequate to me.> This device is compatible with both Windows and Mac and I can say from personal experience that it runs smoothly with Windows 10.> Seagate Dashboard software can be downloaded from their website to utilize the backup plans.> The reading speed is adequate but the writing speed can be on the slower side unless the device policies are changed. I'll talk about it in the end.> Though, the USB 3.0 cable is longer than WD, it is also more wobbly. The USB connection point of the drive is the most delicate part in general and should be handled with care.Coming back to the writing speed, it'll be slower if the policy is set to quick removal (which is the default setting). This ensures that if the USB device is removed without safely ejecting it first, it does not crash or lose any data. We can always change the policy to Better Performance in case large files have to be copied to the HD which increases the writing speed. After the data has been copied, the policy should again be switched back to quick removal to ensure safety of data.Steps to change the device policy to increase speed:1) Open Device Manager.2) Click on Disk Drives and you'll find 'Seagate BUP Slim RG SCSI disk device' among other options.3) Right click on 'Seagate BUP Slim RG SCSI disk device' and select Properties.4) Click on the Policy tab.5) Change the Policy to Better Performance and select Enable write caching on the device.I'd recommend to go back to the Quick Removal Policy after you've finished writing large files on the HD.

BECAUSE I LOST ALL MY IMPORTANT DATA THAT I HAVE SAVED,WHAT THE USE OF PURCHASING EXTERNAL HARD IF IT WILL CORRUPT OR ACCESSIBLE BY PC.I PURCHASE IT TO STORE IMPORTANT DATA AS PC MEMORY ARE GETTING LOW AND SAVED ON EXTERNAL DRIVE AND DELETE DATA FROM PC.NOW WHEN I OPEN ITS NOT ACCESSIBLE.I LOST EVERYTHING , IT WOULD BETTER IF I DIDNT DELETED DATA FROM PC BUT I CANT RECOVER IT NOW. ITS WASTE TO PURCHASE SUCH ITEM ,BETTER PURCHASE PENDRIVE OR MEMORY CARD STORE DATA THERE FOR CHEAP PRICE THAN SPENDING MONEY ON EXTERNAL DRIVE WITH NON SAFE DATA

I have owned many hard drives and have to say that this is one of the best. I have to admit that I was a little hesitant when I saw this Seagate hard drive on sale because I had always used Western Digital hard drives and had been happy with them.Pros:- Slim- Portable- Great looking- Feels good in your hand- Affordable- Still works great after a year of use

Incredibly light and the color is nice but stopped working within 15 days of usage. Dunno what to say anymore after losing GBs worth of data.Update: But, the company's return policy and follow-up was commendable that they replaced it with a new fresh drive and of same color. My faith restored again(sorry company people, I updated my review after a year).
