Works like a charm on D7000

I read lots of positives and not so positive reviews over several forums and waited for the right time to own this lens for some time. Finally got a good deal on Flipkart and grabbed it.
It is a absolute gem and works like a charm on D7000. Even in foggy conditions, it gave me some beautiful pics of birds. I am very much happy with its performance with D7000.
So far I am finding it tough to hand hold this but I am sure with some time this will become a little easier. Tripod is recommended for longer duration. Tripod collar could have been a little longer to hold it but its not annoying.
This is a value for money lens and have would recommend it. I am loving it !!!
Pro quality lens at moderate price

After extensive research and wait for almost an Year I finally decided to go for this lens and most of the popular Photography review sites recommended this lens over Nikon 70-300 VR. A very good lens and bought it at discounted price. Listed are my observation about the lens.
Pro's:
1. More than Modest Build Quality better than (70-300 VR)
2. AF-S, FX Zoom lens (works on entry level DSLR)
3. Performance with par to many professional lens.
4. 77 mm Filter.
5. Built in Hood.
6. Hand holding this lens is not of much issue.
Con's
1. Lack of rear element. (One of the cheapest Nikon 50mm F/1.8 D has rear element)
2. If using in Dusty environment use of Teleconverter is a must to protect dust entering in lens.
3. No Weather Sealing. :(
I would rate 4.5 Star and would have rated it 5 Star if rear elements was present.

this lens was ordered by me from flipkart after checking it out with my friends before deciding which lens to buy.. its just an awesome lens @ the price i got from flipkart was extremely lucky i should say. got it for 58k from flipkart in oct 2013 end during their diwali sale with standard chartered cc there was an offer that time with those cards. Any ways coming back to the lens i have so far no issues from it been using it regularly besides this is the cheapest good PRIME lens u can buy from Nikon for birding n mammal photography.

Excellent lens from Nikon for a very reasonable price.Though it does not have image stabilization , the focus is tack sharp even when hand held. It has hood cover which clicks forwards and backwards.You can use it with both FX AND DX models so it does become a welcome permanent addition to repertoire of lens collection in tehe long run.Also as it is a prime lens it can be used with teleconverters for a longer reach.Excellent delivery service from Flipkart.

relatively heavy(than canon counterpart)
hood is lil bit loose and flimsy

please note that lack of vr i hv not considered in cons as optically its sooo grt that i dont mind about vr..use monopod
there is always comparison with canon counterpart..its clearerly a sharper lense than canon f4 IS..if u r in favor of optical quality nd VR/IS,weight,money dont matter to u,,go for this one..otherwise canon is a better choice(recent price hike of all canon lense keep in mind:)

Very good lens, quality is far better then other 300 mm lenses. AF is very fast and responsive, I am very happy so far and I have not experienced any problem mentioned in other reviews.

Best in class. Though I didn't buy it from amazon, I am using it for more than 3 years. It is an excellent tele lens.Don't blindly go with negative feedbacks. For further detail/review, google it or go to dpreview.comCons: No VR (vibration reduction).
Build quality of this nikkor is a suspect.

I bought this once from Foto Circle bangalore and just before i took delivery, luckily tested it on some of the cameras they had. The lens was bad and it knocked down every single camera they put this lens to test. I gave up and did not buy in foto circle. It is not foto circle's mistake.Assuming that foto circle had a bad copy, I ordered it online here with Amazon.in. Amazon would have this shipped from Shopllers from whom I have bought my Teleconverter TC 17EII. A brand new lens arrived as promised (infact well before the due date). When I put on the lens on my D600, the lens worked but made screaming as hell noise and rattled. It would autofocus but will hunt and badly made that squeaking noise every time virtually make it unusable under any conditions. The shots I took, the optical and Image Quality was stunning. It is a shame on nikon that such a wonderful lens with some very fine optics have been put to bad quality control and worse still they ship it to customers as is.I went by the rave reviews this lens received. A couple of google searches told me that its just not me but many have complaints about this lens especially with this AF-S motor failing and that squeaking and screaming noise is an indication that it has failed. I am now running pillar to post to get it replaces. SHOPLLERS - All that they can tell me was, this is an expensive lens and please do not send it back to us (as the lens will develop problems !!!!!!! huh, what a joke!!!!) and take it to nikon directly.Bottom line, I WOILD NOT RECOMMEND this lens despite its top quality optics and image quality as it is a hit or miss. I got two of them bad in a row and now stuck with a bad second copy.
