Horrible range for such an expensive modem/router
By Fershid Raajon
The range is pathetic for such an expensive router. My TP-Link 341ND gives better range than this router and it costs 1/3rd the price. Two learnings from this purchase:
1. Better to go for a separate modem and separate router
2. Buy a router with external antennae (the more the better)
Just Perfect - A bit of more write speed to USB writing would have justified the price
By Vasuki Narayanon
This is the fourth day with this router and I understand the requirement of people who visit the review for the same. The ultimate need is an All in one device, so let me get straight to the juice of the product.
First, Its an ADSL 2+ Modem Router, avaialble in both Annexes (A/B) depending on the country of sale and Annexe A is for India.
Second its a/b/g/n certified [i.e N 300 (2.4 GHz) + N 450 (5GHz) some also state this is an A specification] concurrent / simultaneous dual band router, i.e devices which support only N band can benefit only from the 2.4 GHz band, ex : Mobile phones are usually N certified for 2.4 GHz, with a few for abgn in total, check your user manual for the support.
The WiFi Range and signal strength is pretty good even with walls in between. Can easily support 10+ devices at various points in house.
Additionally I liked the Mixed mode of security i.e WPA/WPA2 devices can work with the same router security key to get hooked to the WAN.
Third its a DLNA certified media hub, i.e all the connected devices (on LAN Port + 2.4 GHz WAN + 5 GHz WAN) can interact flawlessly over the dlna connection,
Fourth is the inclusion of USB port, although I wished two ports, a multiport hub can fit here and then devices can be connected. I have not tried a 3G/4G dongle for this so I will reserve my comments on the same here. You can add a printer to this USB port on router so all devices can access this for your multiple printing needs.
Tiny mention on the LAN is they are Gigabit LAN ports with neat indications on the router page for the devices connected on the LAN indicating which speed they are functioning.
I have my Smart TV + Laptops on 5 GHz band and Mobile + Tablets on the 2.4 GHz Band and smart tv applications like remote control on tablets etc work with out any hassles. The smart tv outright detected my Iomega NAS drive which is DLNA compliant and movies and photos stream well.
Heating is not an issue, the big vents have done the right job, only drawback is that Linksys routers does not sport a vertical stand.
Finally this router won my expectations over Netgear DGND3700 (N600) and Asus N55-U (N600) which was in earlier consideration for my needs. The netgear was not quite stable on the ADSL connectivity side and Asus was too overloaded with 3 external antennas which was not in my preference list.
Horrible range
By Gizmo Useron
The range of this expensive gizmo is too horrible. I already own a Linksys E2000 router (bought in Canada), which has far better range compared to this X3500. Spending 10K+ for this device will not satisfy the needs of a user. Apart from the range issue everything else is very good. I completely agree with learnings of Fershid Raaj.
Stop thinking and go for it.

Using it for a year now.
Completely no problems occurred.
Its worth the price tag.
Range is good.
1 port USB not enough though.

Don't Buy It!
By Sumit Simlaion
Very unreliable and poor quality of Linksys. Don't fall for their marketing gimmicks. Conked out in 15 months, just three months outside of warranty. Heck should've known when it kept requiring multiple restarts. The modern part of the machine developed a problem, starting with an inability to handle signal noise. SNR came down to 7. Airtel brought in their simple Binatone and lo behold, internet is back. Spoke to Linksys. They said, first reflash the firmware (they never came out with any updates), then when everything failed, they did say: Sorry. Out of warranty. No repair facility in India.Whoever buys this piece of crap, will regret. Moreover, now that Cisco had also gotten rid of Linksys home products to Belkin, it is basically an orphaned child. Stay away!

Delivery is fast, but product WiFi range is not as good as required. Difficult to install from provided cd.
Easiest Setup - Range could be better
By KTon
Easiest router/modem setup I've ever done - in less than 30 mins I had 4 devices and 1 USB printer connected. The CD has settings for major ISPs in most countries - selected MTNL from a drop down list and the ISP settings were configured.
The speed is also excellent - I gave 4 stars since the wi-fi range needs slight improvement.
