Works very well for 3G (I am using Tata Docomo data connection). Configured automatically after I inserted the SIM. I didn't have to even set the APN. For those who wish to use it through wifi, insert the SIM and use a USB power adapter. Now, you are ready to go and you can access the gateway to configure WEP or WPA-PSK. For those who wish to use it through USB, it will install the drivers and dialer automatically. Make sure you have inserted SIM before using one of these two configs. On speedtest.net, even Tata Docomo 3G dongle gave readings of 1.5 Mbps (DL) and 1.2 Mbps (UL). E355 gave readings of 2.5 Mbps (DL) and 1.8 Mbps (UL). But wireless is not wireline. So real test was in download of a file. While Tata Docomo dongle gave download speeds of 30 KBps (kilobytes), E355 gave 140 to 300 KBps. Connection was stable. My 2 Mbps (megabits) wired connection gives a consistent download of 260 KBps (kilobytes). I had many apprehensions even after ordering it from flipkart. But E355 lived up to all my expectations.

Only one I can think of. Many times it does not latch on to the mobile network for more few minutes (Huawei claims it will be ready in 15 secs) and I had to switch it OFF. After switching it ON again, it latched on to network quite fast.

This is good Dongle. I bought it one month back. My experience with it is good.
We can use it for 2G/3G. Indicator is included, it tells us to which signal(2G/3G) we've connected. We can use any SIM card with this device to get internet. It gives max 21 Mbps speed. I am using with DOCOMO 3G SIM card which is having max speed is 7 Mbps, so I am getting relative speed. This device is future-proof, we can use it with faster net connections(upto 21Mbps) in future( as now we getting only 7 Mbps usually).
The amazing feature in this device is inbuilt Wi-Fi. While you connect it to desktop/laptop, if you enable inbuilt Wi-Fi (default: enabled), it acts as a Wi-Fi router. You can connect from any other Wi-Fi device. You can connect 5 devices at same time. It is very useful to me, no need to buy separate router as I am using 1 desktop, 1 laptop and one android phone.
Memory card slot also included, it supports upto 32GB.
Installation is very easy, just connect and click next-next. The important thing is, this dongle is not comes with any dialer. To connect to internet, no need to open any tool and click 'connect'. Automatically it connects to net. This is the most useful feature.
Last but not least, one more wonderful feature included. To use Wi-Fi feature, you no need to insert it into any USB port. Just we need to give USB power, thats it..it acts as a Wi-Fi router. Even you can connect it to any power switch board with USB power adapter and you can connect to it from any Wi-Fi enable device.
Cons: No cons found so far. One minor thing is it is getting hot soon. But I guess it is normal in any dongle. One more thing, you cannot disconnect it from internet without unplug it from power source as it is not connecting through any dialer.
Mobile wifi 3G router

This is a 3G dongle with inbuilt wifi. The advantage is once you have inserted 3G enabled sim card you can access web in the PC to which you have connected also it will act as a wifi router with which you can connect up to 5 wifi enabled devices at same time. For example your mobile,laptop,ipad or other device to connect to web at same time as your 3G connection will be shared to these devices via WIFI. you don't need to buy a wifi router. as it is a mobile wifi router which you can carry with you.it has all the features of a wifi router like setting up WEP key or WPA key for wifi protection in its configuration settings.
My research experience who want to buy a Universal dongle

We should never estimate performance of any goods,by using it just for 1 r 2 days.So i am saying this as my initial review(I bought HUAWEI E355 3 days back).I will present another review after 2 to 3 months.
First of all i did a lot of survey for 7 days when a thought of buying a Universal dongle(which supports any network sim).The first name i heard is HUAWEI brand,and thereafter so many brands.Upon deciding to get a dongle from HUAWEI,now i was confused which model to select from that brand.Again afer some research i found that HUWEI E303C is the best of all at a reasonble price among e172,e173,e303,e303cs-1(hilink device) and so many.
I almost decided to buy HUAWEI E303C dongle and just to have an practical experience of how it works i met a friend who got it just 3 days back.Its performance is so good compared to all dongles i have seen and used so far.But it produced so much heat in just 10 min of its usage in 3g mode(ofcourse because of balong chipset).So i dropped from buying that dongle.
Then i kame to that a new model is released named HUAWEI E355 - (wifi enabled upto 5 devices).My another friend who bought this, said it's not producing much heat and even i experienced the same.
Finally i got this HUAWEI E355 and its performance is really very good.
never a dropped connection even in poor conditions so far.Its built very strongly.No overheat like E303C model.Its WIFI range and signal is also good.
Good option

Good 3G dongle with quite a few features. The internet connection performance has been pretty good and Wifi hotspot is useful and supports WPA2 (and not AdHoc which does not work with Android). Works well with Windows 7 laptop (USB 2.0 ports).
I was able to use on my Macbook Pro with OS X 10.8 (the device is said to support 10.5 and 10.6) only via WiFi at first but then got it to work by signing up and downloading drivers from Huawei Devices website. Without the drivers the device storage was not identified on my 2012 MBP with OS X 10.8, though Mobile Partner does not work and is not necessary because of the web interface. Another thing to keep in mind was apart from drawing the power, it does not work with USB 3.0 port in terms of being able to work as USB modem and probably the sdcard storage. I had a USB hub lying around which I could use to get past this. All this is unnecessary if one is OK with using the Wifi functionality rather than USB (and will probably work with 10.6 and 10.7).
The reason I use USB was because of the heating issues. However I do not see an appreciable change in heating and once had to turn it off after using for 3 hours since internet stopped working (not necessarily due to heating, but plugging it back in after 10 minutes worked).
