The product image show s a telescope that is compact and comes with a carry bag. However the product received is a much longer product in a cardboard box with no carry bag. Have purchased this item as a first telescope for my son who will be turning 8 this month. As a beginner telescope is adequate for the price to demonstrate workings of a real telescope. Will try to keep it functional for as long as possible in his hands! Inside of the telescope tube is unfortunately SHINY plastic which reflects unwanted light and caused lightflare. Am planning a DIY matt paint job/velvet paper fix for this. Plastic quality of diagonal and focus mechanism is not good so don't expect it to last too long. Tripod extends but is of very flimsy open rectangular cross section. Tripod head again is made from flimsy poor quality plastic. Image circle is small. Lots of off-axis chromatic aberration . Eyepieces are just about adequate. Purchased the product with NEXT DAY DELIVERY. Shipping was prompt. Package arrived well packed and in good condition. So conclusion : It was NOT the product shown in the description. Also product description says 60mm dia optics where the primary lens is only 50mm.

I bought this for 1800 during sale in amazon. This is not very well built and the optics are not clear but this is what you get for the price. If you want to start better, go for 70AZ Powerseeker by Celestron. Terrestrial observations are good but you may not get good contrast out of this. It is very difficult to find the correct eye relief distance using 20mm eye piece but 4mm is fine. The stand is not sturdy and wobbles even for the gentle breeze which may be a problem while observing using 4mm eye piece. Views of moon are stunning. I have never used any type of telescope before so I can't compare but once you see the moon you will realize that your investment didn't go for waste. I stared moon for hours using this and I didn't get bored. I observed Venus ,Mars and Jupiter. All of them appear as dots and nothing better. In case of Venus, I think I observed its phase or may be its just placebo. Mars just appears a red spot. Similar case with Jupiter. I couldn't see its moon and I was disappointed. But when I observed Jupiter, it was far from earth. May be I will be lucky if it is closer. Even terrestrial observations are good and will put a smile on your face. I could see almost every thing in my horizon with decent(not good) contrast and clarity. If you are interested in astronomy buy 70mm telescope. I am giving 3 starts just for the price.
