One of the best gadgets I've ever owned!

I bought this in September 2012 from Amazon US site. It's been my companion for almost 6 years. The battery still has the same backup. The screen is awesome. I watch Prime Videos on this device only due to the HD sceeen quality and Dolby sound. Yes, like many others said, this device wouldn't allow installation of Google Apps without rooting. I've rooted mine and have installed all Google Apps and even put a few custom ROMs. But I always come back to the stock ROM because I love it. If I wanted an Android tab I would've bought Nexus 7 at that time but I bought this for reading and watching movies, so why change the UI or complain about it? Amazon Appstore has plenty of apps and very useful ones unlike the useless collection of apps at Google Playstore. Plus, I can always sideload apps using .apk files. It comes with IVONA TTS voice in the Kindle reader and I love it. Now that I have another Kindle Paperwhite for reading, this one is my movie/series tab than a reading tab. Also, I play plenty of games in it. Did you know Amazon Appstore has a section called Amazon Underground where you can download "actually free" apps? That's right, paid apps for free with free in app purchases. Overall, this tab is kickass. It has been of superb built quality for costing only 15k INR in 2012. I wish Amazon launched their new fire tabs and phones in India. I would totally buy those. Thanks a lot for this amazing device.
Beauty in a Slate

My wife got me this device in Nov (2013). Have been using it regularly since for reading, music, videos, pictures (viewing), internet browsing and much more. Though its a shame that this device doesn't support 3G connection, but its wi-fi is good enough.The device is super fast, however excessive internet browsing makes its processor to heat up (not much though).I was a little disappointed with its OS as well. Amazon decided to cover the basic android with their FIRE OS (which is sometimes cringeworthy). You cannot end the apps that you are not using, which means that after you exit an app, its still running in the background and you have no way to end that app. It puts unnecessary load on the processor and creates a snag in the device.All andorid apps (.apk files) can be installed and run on it. However, Amazon restricts you from signing into any Google ID other than the email. It means if you download the YouTube app (by directly installing the .apk file), you will be able to run the app, but the device will not sign you in with your google ID. This goes same for each and every app that uses a google ID to work.Other than all this, its not much different from an android device. Heck, if you install any android launcher (FX or GO) you can even make it look like an android device.I love it, my kids love it and we all use it regularly.Most of the apps that are available in Google Play Market are also available in Amazon's market place.
Short life device.

I purchased this device three years back in Sept 2013. It worked well for first two years. In the third year it started giving trouble.Now its no more working. I had expected this would last at least for 5 years. Very unreliable device. Broke down in three years. I would advice not to purchase it when available.
kindie should have a backup plan..a must.

I am still sulking over my kindle as something went wrong and after 1 1/2 yeara it became unrepairable. I had stored so much in it , books and apps and now it's all lost.I wrote to Amazon till 6-7 months and asked them to at least give me a service center where it could be repaired , but nothing. Though I tried it with some local tab repair shops But I guess I have lost my favourite friend....KINDLE .

A very handy tablet for reading ebooks and Kindle e books. Good for keeping your Word, pdf, Excel, notepad documents. Good for keeping your personal and family photos and videos. Excellent for making use of all Amazon services and useful and entertaining applications. Amazon cloud service is also there where you can store your documents, videos, and photos. Good for surfing as well. A wonderful experience for three years.
