Gadget 360 Review : Thin and Fast Laptop with Latest Specs.
By NDTV Gadgets360on
The Swift 3 is essentially a Windows version of Apple’s MacBook Air but it also competes with other Windows offerings like HP’s Envy line, the Dell XPS 13 and Lenovo’s IdeaPad 500 series. This laptop comes across as a very good value offering for students and professionals looking for a thin and light laptop that doesn’t skimp on performance
Acer Swift 3 design and build quality
The Swift 3 uses high-quality materials for its construction which makes it durable, and also a bit heavy. The matte aluminium body offers decent grip and there’s no flex to the lid or in the keyboard area, which is very good. The display tilts 180 degrees backwards and the hinge has very good torsion so it can hold the lid firmly in pretty much any position.
The lower half of the Acer Swift 3 is wedge-shaped, but it's thick enough to accommodate full-sized ports. On the left, we have HDMI, USB 3.0, and USB Type-C (Gen1, 5Gbps) ports along with the charging connector and LEDs for hard drive activity and charging. On the right, we have an SD card reader, headphone/ microphone combo socket, a USB 2.0 port and a Kensington lock. Acer has cleverly placed the intake and exhaust vents near the hinge so you never accidentally hamper air circulation. The edges of the Swift 3 are rounded so you don’t feel anything sharp when using it.
The 14-inch LED-backlit display is one area in which Acer has had to compromise. Sadly, the resolution is also just 1366x768 and not full-HD or higher, which according to Acer, was a choice it made in order to keep the price as aggressive as possible. It’s disappointing that we don’t even have a full-HD option in India like most other countries. Colour reproduction is quite average and vertical viewing angles are weak. Thankfully, brightness is good enough and the matte finish means that reflections won't interfere with your work. The display has fairly thick borders all around, which increases the footprint of the laptop a bit.
We like the chiclet style keys on the Acer Swift 3 as they are well spaced and are slightly sculpted so that your fingers don’t slip off when typing. Key travel is also good and they aren’t too noisy. We wish the spacing of the direction keys had been better. Also, the power button shouldn’t have been part of the standard keyboard cluster as it’s easy to mistake it for the Del key. The trackpad is large and spacious and you even get a fingerprint sensor on the right palm rest area. The stereo speakers are placed on the bottom of the Swift 3. The four rubber feet give the laptop decent elevation and grip when used on a flat surface.
Acer Swift 3 specifications and features
The top-end variant of the Swift 3 in India has an Intel Core i7-7500U processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 256GB SSD. These are pretty solid core specifications for a thin-and-light laptop. Other specifications include Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0, an HD webcam, and a 4-cell battery. The Swift 3 isn’t easily upgradeable as it would require you to open up the entire base. You’re better off heading to an Acer service centre to avoid any warranty issues.
The laptop comes with Windows 10 Home 64-bit, which works smoothly. You also get the usual suite of Acer programs pre-installed including Acer Portal for the company’s ‘build your own cloud’ feature. Other programs include Acer’s Quick Access, which gives you toggles for a blue light filter and power-off USB charging; and Care Center which lets you check and maintain the integrity of your system. You also get a 30-day subscription to Norton Internet Security, but the biggest bonus is that get the full version of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2016 suite free with this laptop, which is typically worth Rs. 6,899 if you buy it separately. This gives you Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote without a yearly subscription.
Acer Swift 3 performance and battery life
We didn’t have any trouble with the Swift 3 in our day-to-day work. The laptop handles Windows and most apps very well thanks to the SSD and a good amount of RAM. Multitasking is managed well too, and the trackpad easily handles two-finger scrolling and Windows 10 gestures. The keyboard and palm rest area doesn’t get hot when the laptop is charging or being used heavily. The base does get a bit hot, but nothing close to alarming levels. The fingerprint sensor is also quick at authentication and works as part of the Windows Hello security framework.
The laptop fares well in benchmarks. We ran through our usual suite of synthetic tests and got decent results. In PCMark 8, we got 3729, 4352, and 3524 points in the Home, Creative, and Work test suites respectively. The SSD also performs very well as we got a sequential read bandwidth of 1.4GBps while the write bandwidth topped out at 517GBps. The integrated GPU is also good enough to handle casual 3D games from the Windows Store such as Asphalt 8: Airborne.
The Acer Swift 3 can handle 4K video playback quite well although it struggles a bit with such clips when on battery power because performance is reduced to extend battery life. Brightness is good enough but colours aren’t too punchy. Pushing the brightness level up tends to burn out white levels and ruin contrast. The HD resolution isn’t sharp and there's visible pixelation around icons and text. The stereo speakers produce loud and full-bodied sound when they have something to reflect off, like the surface of a table. When using the Swift 3 on your lap though, they sound weak and tinny. Images from the HD webcam aren’t very noisy, which is nice to see.
Acer claims a battery life of up to 12 hours, however, we found it to be closer to about 6-7 hours of actual usage. Our graphics-heavy Battery Eater Pro test gave us a very weak result of only 1 hour and 37 minutes, but real-world usage is better. We were just about able to get through a full work day on a single charge.
The Swift 3 is the budget-friendly version of Acer’s flagship Ultrabook, the Swift 7. In India, Acer has had to make certain compromises with the units being sold here in order to keep the price as aggressive as possible. In a way, it has worked in Acer's favour, as you’d be hard pressed to find any slim laptop with these specifications at this price right now. The pricing of Dell’s XPS 13 starts at above a lakh while HP’s Envy 13-d115tu sits slightly below it. Most of the models that are priced in the range of the Swift 3 have a Core i5 CPU, but then again, they also usually have full-HD displays, which the Swift 3 lacks.
If you’re looking for a powerful thin and light laptop for work, then it’s hard to find better value than the Swift 3 right now. You can get it online starting at Rs. 36,000 in lower configurations if your budget is very tight, but even the highest-end offering looks good in terms of value. The low-resolution, low-quality display is the only major flaw here. Plus, the keyboard layout could have been slightly improved.

First of fall, I bought this laptop for 45K.
This is a OUTSTANDING LAPTOP for 45K.
=> BUILD QUALITY
Metal build, feels premium and quite heavy too though it weights just 2.1KG.
Track pad has really good response and large enough (supports gestures). Also having a Fingerprint, though its not good as your phone's one. Also have a backlit keyboard.
Boots up in 10-13 secs , thanks to 128 ssd.
Opens Photoshop CC 2017 in 10 secs approx.
Playing GTA 5 on Normal settings, Some noticable lags are there though.
Also gets heats up very fast during gaming cause of metal body , Fans are below display but display won't get much heated although keyboard got heated on upper side.
Got a Full HD 1080p Display with good viewing angles (Better than my friend's HP pavilion). Brightness is low for if you are using in direct sunlight. Screen is very reflective for outdoor use But looks good too in indoor condition, as it having a pure black screen.
Just okay okay. Normal use 5 Hrs approx.
Gaming 45 Mins( approx) .Plug power in while gaming.
Go for this if available near 50K, best deal. But I don't suggest this for 70K.

An Excellent Laptop With All the ingredients to fulfill your daily requirements.I bought this laptop a week ago and i am really impressed by its build quality. It rigid, firm and feels premium.so lets see how was my experience so far.
Display:Its packed with a FHD IPS panel which is vibrant and colours are punchy but color accuracy
well, thats a downside. But a decent one for the
price. although i wished the backlit LED could have been little more brighter as its very hard to see the content even at max. Brightness
when you go outdoor or maybe a matte finish could have helped.
Performance:Performance is stunning i was able to play latest titles without any stuttering atleast at mid settings offcourse at 768p and Thanks to the 128GB SSD it just takes ~10s to boot !! Amazing Right? And i wished they couldve installed single 8GB ram instead of 2x4GB .and i am still skeptical whether its soldered on board or their is dedicated slot which might help in future.
Fingerprint sensor is good but not as fast as your smartphones it takes 2 or more retries sometimes in conjunction with windows hello
Speaker Sound is good and punchy but lacks bass and the placement is inappropriate moreover the sound distorts when you crank up the volume.Sometimes the sound just crackels i am not if its a hw or sw issue yet it gets resolved after a reboot.
Battery life is amazing if u r not into gaming.for basic usage like programming and watching videos and all you will get atleast 6hrs of backup.but it takes a lot of time to charge the battery completely
UPDATE:things have changed after adding few more applications battery life has decreased significantly although you can still expect somewhere around 5hrs of normal usage.
Keyboard is good its illuminated by white backlit.
Trackpad is sensitive and its supports windows precision drivers so its super smooth. One Of the best i have seen in this range.
Heat Management:Heat dissipation is mediocre and the fans are almost mute on normal usage but when you start playing games or run heavy loads of task then theres noticeable heating especially above the keyboard.Anyways, no one is going to touch that part yet its a point to be noted as it does heat up to an uncomfortable extent.
Connectivity is OK Nothing special here
Camera is mediocre it grainy that i hardly use it
So It Concludes that this is a decent laptop especially focused towards productivity, for the guys who are looking for gaming i think you should opt for something else.its a bit heavy, its thin but not much.It also misses out on CD drive & Ethernet Port which i dont bother about as its 2018 and its probably Outdated.

Yes it's a very nice product. Got this swift 3 at 45K on this Valentine's day. It has each and every feature like a smart phone. It is somewhat slippery, feels heavy weight, looks are superb, running smooth, no ethernet port as it is thin laptop, It has SSD that's the nice point. It doesn't have dvd drive. Backlit keyboard is nice. It is may not be the best at 70K but can be at 58-65K like Asus Vivo book. Full metal build and warranty comes under ITW so warranty works only in Bangalore and Delhi. Overall great product thank u flipkart and ACER.
Worth every penny

Flipkart - Fast delivery within 2 days. I was bit upset about the packaging. But it was the outer packaging. And Acer provided 2 more high quality layer of packaging inside. So no issues.
Product - I have got the dark blue color. And I am loving it.
I am a fan of all metal chassis. Made out of brushed aluminum with smooth texture. Underside is made of may be plastic, but it is very good quality.
Notebook is very very slim and stylish. Weight is mentioned as 2.2kg. But believe me you will feel it very light.
It doesn't comes with a cd/dvd drive. Anyway, nobody using them these days.
Now let's discuss other aspects,
Screen - It comes with an 1080p full HD IPS grade display. And to be honest in the price point it exceeded my expectations.
One surprise is, it has gorilla glass protection on the screen. That's not mention in production specs. It's a 5/5.
Speaker - Average i would say. I am not a fan of bottom mounted speaker. So I will give 3/5.
Keyboard - Very impressive. Keys travel is just right. And it's backlight. But no backlight LED brightness setting. Only on or off. Anyway in this price range a backlight keyboard is already a gift. So 5/5.
Ports - Awesome port selection. Same as specs says. 5/5
Heating - I did not noticed any heating issue till now.
Camera - Sorry but I haven't tried yet. Will update soon.
OS - I have select the Linux version. It comes with Endless OS, which is a very user friendly Linux distribution. However I have changed the OS as it's not suitable for my work.
I am a developer. So from performance perspective, it is all I need. Intel i5 8th Gen itself is a beast with 4 cores and 6MB cache. 8GB RAM makes things fluid. It has a finger print sensor too.
I am using Ubuntu with KDE plasma on it. And performance is pretty awesome. No lag. No heating.
Battery backup is quite good from Linux perspective. I am getting around 4 hours. You should install Windows 10 to get a better battery performance.
No Windows 7 drivers available in Acer site. Only Windows 10 drivers. So be careful.
Drivers are not a headache for linux guys though. :-)
