Incredible value earphones
By Deepak Gopalakrishnanon
Creds: I have owned headphones and earphones of various types and cost - so if I may be allowed to show off a little in the name of building my credentials here: Sennheiser PX100, CX300, IE7, Momentum; Klipsch S4; Grado SR80, SR325 and now the Hifiman HE500.
I bought these earphones because I wanted a cheap alternative, after losing my awesome Senn IE7s. I wanted something that would get me by the odd office listen, minimal travelling and cycling. So I didn't mandate the quality to be awesome (that's something I get from my home headphones), so I stuck to a budget of 2k.
I was blown away. These are the best value earphones I've tried for the price. Audio Technica have come out with a stellar pair here. The bass is tight, mids sound good and the treble is nice and shimmery as well. The soundstage is fabulous - I couldn't believe these were coming from a pair that cost just 1700 bucks! The novel 'seal', which might annoy some, is an added advantage.
This is a clear winner, and my personal recommendation for 'cheap' earphones. Pick it up without a thought - it should suit most genres. At this price, it's unbeatable.
Not for Bass Heads..Definitely for Audiophiles/Purists !

If You're Looking for oodles of Bass, Look for Sennheiser CX-215 or even better, the JVC Xtreme Xplosives HA-FX101.....
As far as built quality is concerned, they have great build...Metal housing...the cable looks pretty tough...
The Fit depends on your ears..and it fits mine brilliantly..but I do feel listening to it for long hours can cause a bit of strain..nothing too alarming though..the Noise isolation is pretty good too...
In the Box you'll get a total of 4 pair of buds, a clip and the headphones themselves along with a few booklets...
Now to the Most Important part - AUDIO QUALITY:
Out-Of-The-Box: Out of the Box, they sound Good...the bass is a bit lacking, the Vocals are clear and rich and the Highs are so beautiful but a little overpowering...but doesn't distort even a bit..rather offers excellent detail....excellent sound stage...unfortunately, it doesn't respond very lively to equalizer tweaks...but it doesn't have to, it sounds really nice...but Bass heads will be disappointed...
After 150 hrs Burning: After burning them for 150 hours, Their audio quality has further improved, not by a vast amount, but its palpable...there is more richness..the bass has opened up a bit...and now it responds well to equalizer tweaks, couple that with rich vocals and highly detailed clear crisp highs with excellent sound stage....and I think we have a winner...Still if you're a bass addict, I wouldn't recommend it..That does not mean it lacks bass completely...
OVERALL: Overall I think if You are an audiophile, a purist...who want Sound stage, Resolution, Rich Vocals and distortion free audio...Well then Look no further....This In-Earphone has the best-in-class audio quality....
WORTH EVERY PENNY...!

Pros: Balanced sound, Rich mids & Smooth highs..!
Cons: Adequate bass - Not a bass head Iem, Burn in is compulsory & uncomfortble wearing them initially (due to special ring design)
I'm not much of a audiophile nor a reviewer just a regular audio enthusiast.. Apologies & correct me if I'm wrong..
Absolutely "StUnNeD" by these gems thought of sharing my experience..
Firstly I'm from India & CKN - 50's are priced Rs.1600 roughly 24 USD.
Few options at this price point were
TDK EB-900
JVC FX101
SONY XB30
After searching for reviews narrowed on to CKN50 as I own TDK EB900
DESIGN:
- Good build
- cable is not good as it gets tangled very often
- Found it very uncomfortable in initially to get a good seal due to ring which supports the earphone's body
Performance :
Bass : It has good presence but is not to the extent of bass head iems. It does'nt extends very low but really blends with other frequencies. Its tight & adequate, Unlike EB 900 which has enormous amounts of bass. Initially bass does nt sound good but after 80+ hours of burn in it starts to sound & extend really well but the quantity of bass remains unchanged to most part
Mids : This is the part which absolutely love abt them, vocals sound so good, rich, detailed & crisp. very Lively presented without any harshness combined with a wide soundstage its a delight to listen vocals especially female voices. Instruments like guitar, flute, Piano & tabla never sounded sounded so rich, precise & so detailed, but Burn in/Break in is very much required prior to burn in it sounds a bit harsh & raw
Treble : This is the interesting part, Out of box it sounds harsh & very dominated. After 80+ hours of intense burn in. Then the magic starts, they calm down, smoothens out, sounds so rich Yet so balanced & detailed at the same time, slower decays than the Eb-900's absolutely love them. A.R Rahman songs & Instrumentals come alive with these gems.
Details :
Its a "Detail Digger" as said earlier, brings in a lot of detail never heard in Eb-900s
