Works as described but incorrect pricing

By Rohiton
Ideally I would have given a 4 star, the reason for 3 star is the pricing showed on amazon, MRP on amazon is 4,090.00, and given a discount of 66%, where as the actual MRP of the product on the box is 1999.00, I've attached the pic on box showing the same. Now come to the product itself, the set up is smooth and the instruction guide has all the information required. It took me 15 min to set up the network and then I placed the device at a low range location and it worked perfectly providing a full range wireless signal and speed. But it has only been 2 days since I'm using the device, will update the review after month or so if the performance changes, if I don't update then you can safely assume that the product is working fine. If only amazon can do anything about the false price advertisement.Update after 10 days of use -In the last 10 days I've had to reset the device and reconfigure 5 times. Not sure what is the problem, all those 5 times the extender lost connection to the main router and would not connect even if the extender was beside the router by 5 inches. When I went to manual set up using a browser in these 5 cases, it did not detect the existing wireless connection at all. Instead I had to reset the device and set up from scratch, which is when it detected the existing wireless connection, all neighbouring wireless connections were detected at all times. There is solution I found for this problem either.Downgrading the rating from 3 star to 2 star.

Not good product and difficult to install

By Virendraon
Tried every damn way to setup but couldn't without compromising security.Nowadays routers doesn't support this wps, so you have to either choose wpa keys setup to work by compromising security. And I was okay for that a given point of time but had to return because it doesn't detect my wifi occasionally and after every power cut I had to setup again for it to work. Not a piece of mind. Range is okay.

Must have

By Vanessa Liuon
Bought it for 999 /- Hence great value for money. The product is excellent. I'm using for extending JioFi range throughout the house. The router is kept where I get the best signal and the extender placed strategically for extending the wifi range. Setup is very simple and straightforward. Great value for money.

Third class product

By Sanmoyon
A real third class product. From day one, device performance was very poor. Even though it is kept hardly 10 feet away from my devices. Router to extender distance is also <10 feet, speed is extremely low. Nowhere closer to its advertized 300Mbps! But considering the price, I was not much irritated.Real trouble started when I logged into the device and it prompted for upgrade firmware and I clicked yes! The device is just dead after this. No factory reset no power on green light, nothing. It is just dead!! Its been only one month I am using this product. Googled a lot, searched their support site, but there is nothing. Apparently many people have faced the same problem, but I wonder how this device rating is so high in amazon! Never ever buy this. Or, if you buy, don't upgrade.

Great product

By Rahul KVon
This is a great WiFi extender. Provides a wide range after pairing to your existing WiFi modem. It is very easy to setup. While setting it up, I suggest you to keep the same name as your current WiFi connection name. This way, the devices at home will auto detect the stronger signal and switch over without hassle and you don't have to setup a new connection in all your devices.

Excellent product

By Raveeshon
Works as it should - acts as a repeater for your weak wi-fi signal. The only catch is that you should have a plug point almost half way between your present router and where you get low range. Easy to setup. Needs restarting every few days but other than that, no issues

I want to return the product

By Subhash Apteon
Bought the range extender to enhance the WiFi access in my house. After doing a lot of research (since I'm not a IT person, I needed to do the research on my own), I decided on this product, the WN3000RP. Right from delivery there were issues, and it took almost 3 weeks for the delivery. The product is simple, very easy to install, and even I could install it quickly without hassles. Somehow it just did not work. Despite resetting and re installing it any number of times, it just wouldn't work. My device showed good range, an excellent connection to the main router, but the net just wouldn't come alive. I have been despondent since,as it is a very frustrating situation to be in. The NETGEAR customer care was a nightmare, and the less said about it the better. Would I recommend this product? Since it did not work for me, I wouldn't.

pretty badly tested product

By Srinivasan Von
this product is not doing what it is supposed to do. No much of extension of coverage in horizontal and to me the biggest disadvantage it doesnt work on WPA2-PSK with my DLINK. WEP is not acceptable. So only 2 stars.

Netgear WN3000RP Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

By Vivek Kumaron
Few things to note before you decide to buy this product: 1. With range extenders, a new network SSID (yournetwork_ext) will be created. This means that you cannot move around seamlessly with your mobile devices from an area under WiFi coverage of your primary router (e.g. SSID: yournetwork) to an area not covered by the primary router (covered by the range extender) without the need to connect to another WiFi network SSID. If you want to use the same SSID across, use another router/access point with a Cat 5e cable running from the primary router to the new router/access point. If this is not possible due to limitations on the maximum length of the cable (90m for all practical purposes) or due to issues with internal wiring, using a range extender and trading off on a single SSID may be an easier option. 2. If you are connected to the SSID for the range extender and move into a zone where the signal strength from the primary router is stronger that that from the range extender, or vice-versa, the device would not automatically switch to the WiFi network with better strength until the WiFi signal from the SSID to which it is connected dies down. So, you may actually be connected to the WiFi network with lower strength, while the other one with better strength is available. Now, for the pros of this device: 1. I liked the form factor and the fact that it can be simply plugged into a power socket on the wall, pretty much like a mosquito repellent. 2. LED indicators on the device are very helpful in gauging the signal strength from the primary router and checking if a wireless client is actually connected to the device or not. (If I see the LED indicating connected wireless clients turned off, I can switch off the device without worrying that I may be knocking off someone else in the house using the connection). Cons: 1. If you are using MAC filtering on the primary router, setting up this device first time may be a little difficult. I will discuss how I did this later here. 2. There may be a little performance degradation when clients connect to the extender versus when they connect to the primary router. This is expected, as when clients connect to the extender, data goes over 2 WiFi networks (it gets bridged from the extender's WiFi network to the primary router's leading to a drop in bandwidth/efficiency). Use the extender network for casual browsing. Use the primary router for more serious work and bandwidth intensive applications like video-conversations. Initial setup and workarounds: 1. A virtual MAC address is created for each device connecting to the extender's network and this is used to access the primary router. I was using MAC filtering on the primary router and although I had the MAC addresses of all my devices and the range extender added to the primary router, connectivity for the extended network was showing up as limited with no Internet access. It took me a while to figure this out, as not much documentation is available on this. (i) Before configuring the extender, turn off MAC filtering on the primary router. (ii) After configuring the extender, connect all your wireless devices to the extended network. (iii) Now, browse to the page which shows the wireless devices connected to your primary router. For my router, this was under http://192.168.1.1 -> Wireless -> Station Info. (iv) Note the MAC addresses of all connected devices (these will be virtual MAC addresses and not the real ones) and for the extender itself. (v) Add these MAC addresses to the MAC filter on the primary router and re-enable MAC filtering on the primary router. 2. Place the extender at the center of the segment from the primary router to the WiFi dead zone. For working around the issue of devices remaining connected to the SSID with weaker signal, even though the other one with stronger signal is available: (i) set the devices to connect automatically only to the SSID to which they are usually closer, and connect manually to the other SSID as and when required. (ii) alternatively, if the signal from the range extender is available across the house, whereas that from the primary router is not (due to router placement limitations, e.g. near the telephone line socket), configure all devices to connect to the extender's SSID only. However, as stated earlier, this may lead to slight performance degradation, which may be fine for casual browsing. The bottom-line is that this device provides easy setup, as compared to fixing internal wiring issues to have a single SSID, and good signal strength in areas of my home which were earlier WiFi dead-zones!

Unclear explanation of what the product does

By Farokh Iranion
I had purchased this product to boost my wireless signal as I have a relatively large house. What is not made clear is that this product does not exactly boost your existing wireless signal. It creates an extension, which is basically a second network that is tagged on to the primary one. So if you move out of the range of your main modem, your wireless device has to log on to a new network. So if you are looking for seamless wireless connectivity throughout your house this is not the product for you. Additionally there were times when I was sitting at my desk right next to my primary modern but my laptop was trying to connect to the extension network. This product is a mess.Netgear should make it clear as to what exactly the product does. Luckily the folks at flipkart were nice enough to take the product back and give me a credit. Even though netgear rejected my return request. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
